Job overview

The job holder will play an essential role supporting the Lead Nurse in providing care for children in the Emergency Area whilst supporting the nursing teams throughout the 24-hour period.

As an experienced children’s nurse, the job holder will co-ordinate activities in the department ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times, providing support to qualified and unqualified staff within the department.  He/she will play a key role in the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care

Main duties of the job

The job holder will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice, developing the children’s nursing team and ensuring effective management of the department in the absence of the Lead Nurse

Will act at all times to encourage an environment of empowerment through coaching, teaching and facilitating development whilst supporting service development.

  • Demonstrable experience at Band 5 or equivalent in Emergency Department or Acute setting
  • Proven leadership and management skills
  • Experience in change management
Desirable criteria
  • Involvement in staff/service development

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (Child)
  • Evidence of continued professional development and implementation in clinical practice
  • Application of evidence based practice
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of training needs in relation to post. i.e ALS, PLS, ILS, Trauma Course
  • To development personal clinical ability to meet service demand
  • Evidence of RCN competencies completion.
