Job overview

We are looking for Specialty Doctor in Respiratory Medicine 

The role of the post will be to provide Specialty Doctor input to the Respiratory Medicine unit to enable the efficient and effective assessment and initial management of all cases. The post holder will also support the Physicians who run these units.  

The post holder will be developed into Specialist Doctor within 12 months of the appointment.


This is full time 10 PA post with 1 PA on call. 

Main duties of the job

They will have day-to-day responsibility for patients under the care of Consultants.   Two consultant medical ward round to take place each week.  They will lead at least one ward round each week, will supervise the junior doctors in the team and will take part in the teaching of junior medical staff and medical students (Yeovil Academy), co-ordinating this activity carefully with the Consultants. Excellent library facilities are available.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

•             Specialty Doctors must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience since qualification, 1 of which must be in the relevant specialty.

•             Day to day responsibility for patients under the care of the Consultants.

•             To support general medical and respiratory ward rounds as required.

•             To provide Speciality Doctor input to the Respiratory Medicine unit to enable efficient and effective assessment and management of all patient cases.

•             To support the Consultant Physicians who run the Respiratory units.

•             The post holder’s professional progress will be reviewed annually by the supervisory Consultant.

•             To participate in the teaching of Foundation and Junior Doctors at the bedside as well as to Medical Students.

•             After a period of supervision and support, progress to participation in the Consultant on call rota

•             To maintain a good working relationship with existing staff members in the hospital

•             To attend other hospitals within the Trust if so requested by the supervising Consultant.

•             The post holder will undertake, exceptionally, to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

•             To aid development the post holder will have periods of acting up as Specialist Doctor with an expectation of progressing to Specialist Doctor within 12 months of appointment.

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 5 years pot Medical Degree - MBBS or Equivalent
  • ALS/ALCS or equivalent
  • MRCP or Equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 5 Years Post Graduate Training
  • 2 year exposure to general respiratory medicine in specialist training programme or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant research experience
  • SCE in respiratory

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
  • Willingness and ability to fulfil the key elements of the job description
  • Ability to perform pleural needle drainage under ultrasound guidance with minimal supervision
