An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health  Inequalities Lead based at Weston General Hospital, on a 12 month fixed-term contract.

This autonomous, new role will be crucial to the delivery of the Health Equity and Patient Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy.

The post holder is responsible for leading a programme of work across Weston General Hospital focusing on patients, carers and communities with a primary focus on reducing and eliminating health inequalities.

The post holder will need to understand what service provision is required in Weston General Hospital, to improve equity of service for addiction, High Impact Users (HIU), mental health and any other service that may impact on health inequalities.

This is done through identifying and evaluating opportunities and implementing solutions collaboratively with staff, community partners (such as Sirona), Public Health and patient groups, in order to provide accessible, equitable and inclusive health services for the diverse local population.

Qualifications & Training

  • Educated to masters level in a supporting subject or equivalent level of significant experience, developed through similar specialist roles
  • Have developed expertise in EDI through a proven track record of culture change in large scale complex organisation

  • Expert understanding of EDI with the ability to provide expert advice
  • Expert understanding of the NHS Accessible Information Standard
  • Experience of Integrated Care System working and developing solutions in partnership
  • Demonstrated experience of co-ordinating projects and programmes in large, complex, and challenging environments
  • Significant experience of successfully operating in a politically sensitive environment with diverse stakeholder groupings
  • Experience of achieving objectives through working with stakeholders and services to achieve organisational results/KPI whilst also functioning as expert advice for local level objectives
  • Knowledge and experience of data and information analysis, collation and summation and ability to apply this in the appropriate manner, including supporting the direction and understanding of others, adapting to the capability and understanding of the audience.
  • Detailed knowledge of maintaining confidentiality and implementing data protection legislation requirements including information governance.
  • Demonstration of ability to take the lead in all aspects of the role and work independently using your expert skills to make decisions on your agenda and supporting others to make positive development decisions in line with personal and business aspirations
  • Experience of drafting detailed and evidenced-based papers and correspondence at senior management team level

  • Well-developed organisation skills to ensure all activities and programmes within the remit of the role are developed, delivered, reviewed adjusted and implemented under complex and sensitive programme of work
  • Excellent ability to prioritise a full and heavy workload, balance conflicting demands and to work to agreed deadlines
  • Ability to form collaborative and reciprocal partnerships with VCSE organisations
  • Excellent IT skills, and fully proficient in the use of Microsoft applications and database management
  • Highly effective planning and organisation skills, able to coordinate and prioritise a range of activities to deliver the appropriate outcomes including delivery of training and a wide spectrum of interventions
  • Able to build and maintain a variety of constructive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Actively participates in relevant internal and external working groups/projects, services and initiatives, providing information and EDI expertise
  • Is able to effectively co-ordinate the delivery of a broad range of complex tasks or programmes of work over the medium term requiring the formulation of strategic plans with impact across both their own department and the wider organisation
  • Is able to adjust plans and resources in line with changing events and requirements
  • Can apply analytical skills to assess different programme intervention options and use expertise/ professional judgement to identify appropriate
