Weston Intensive Care Unit is looking to recruit experienced Band 5 Nurses.  

Following vacancies available:

  • 1 x 9 month Fixed Term contract 1.0WTE/ 37.5 hours per week.
  • Permanent posts 2.0 WTE - Various hours available.

Weston Intensive Care Unit (WICU) is a four bed unit with a small and very friendly team who care for a range of Level 2 and 3 patients from both emergency and elective admissions.  

We work closely as a multidisciplinary team to provide the best care for all patients in WICU. We have a high level of nursing autonomy in the provision and management of prescribed care and treatment goals. 

WICU provides high quality care and therapies for patients with a wide variety of medical and surgical conditions during their critical care stay and beyond. We provide multi-organ support including haemofiltration, ventilation, chemical cardiac support and invasive monitoring.  

We work closely with the Critical Care Outreach team who provide follow up reviews to ICU step down patients on the wards.  

We have a proactive learning environment with a dedicated Clinical Educator who will individually guide your learning in accordance with national competencies frameworks specific to Critical Care – Steps competencies. Opportunities for continued professional development are available every year. As a unit we are committed to appraisal, education and professional development.

You will take charge of the  clinical needs and holistic care of an allocated patient(s). As part of a multi-disciplinary team you will assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of your patient during your shift. You will need to prioritise your workload and adapt quickly to the patients changing clinical need. 

You will be expected to:

  • Delegate appropriate tasks and activities to a range of team members in relation to patient care 
  • Ensure nursing documentation is maintained, accurate and timely in line with the Trust standard.
  • Demonstrate awareness and compliance with Trust policies, procedures, guidelines and work towards promoting this to others
  • Develop your skills and knowledge in line with national competencies.
