Job overview

Are you a HCPC registered Dietitian looking for an opportunity to further develop your knowledge and skills within the area of gastroenterology? Then look no further as we have an exciting fixed term (maternity leave cover) opportunity within our friendly and supportive department at Weston General Hospital!

You would be working as part of our acute dietetic team providing dietetic care to inpatients within the gastroenterology pathway. Additionally, some outpatient work is included within this role. It would be advantageous to have a range of acute experience including with TPN and within an ITU setting.

We are a team of 12 Dietitians underpinned by 5 Dietetic support workers plus administrative support, working as part of UHBW’s larger Adult Nutrition and Dietetic Service based at Bristol Royal Infirmary.

We are a supportive department and as well as providing monthly supervision sessions for our staff, we have recently implemented 1 day per month of protected time for ours staff's  professional development. Additionally the Trust offers a wealth of resources to support staff health and wellbeing, including Wellbeing advocates within your team, and we encourage our staff to utilise resources and look after themselves.

Secondments could be considered following discussion with your line manager. We welcome calls to discuss this opportunity further.

Main duties of the job

  • The Dietitian is a specialist member of the dietetic team and is responsible for the delivery of a high quality, comprehensive dietetic service for UHBW.  This clinical workload is augmented by a variety of teaching and training activities.
  • This comprehensive service provision is for acute inpatients and out-patients, across gastroenterology pathways. This service will be provided under the guidance and supervision of the senior specialist dietitians.
  • A range of nutritional interventions will be provided but the majority of individually referred inpatients will require complex nutrition support advice, including enteral tube feeding.
  • The provision of evidence-based information and support relating to nutrition and complex conditions.
  • Expert dietetic advice for individually referred outpatients with long term conditions requiring advice beyond basic healthy eating.
  • Using behaviour change skills & holistic approaches to support patients to manage their long-term conditions and goals.
  • The post holder also undertakes any other reasonable duties which may be identified in consultation with the Senior Specialist Dietitians, Team Leaders and the Operational & Professional Lead for Adult Nutrition & Dietetic Services.
