Job overview

X-Ray Department, 24 hours per week to be worked Monday, Thursday and Friday 8.30am-5pm

A vacancy has arisen for a secretary in the X-ray department. This post will involve providing a secretarial service for the consultant radiologists and issuing radiological reports. 

The X-ray department provides a busy working environment, with 85,000 examinations being performed each year, reports are issued for the majority of these examinations. The department provides services for inpatients, outpatients GPs and Emergency Department.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide typing and general administration support to the department of clinical imaging. The role involves knowledge and understanding of radiological terminology.
  • Specific responsibility for co-ordinating Radiologists rota’s and recording private patients for invoicing. The post holder will also be responsible for providing images for medic-legal requests.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE, Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths
  • Business Administration Level 3 NVQ or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Typing Qualification – RSA 3 or equivalent

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate at all levels requiring tact and diplomacy to achieve desired results
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to see a task through from beginning to end with meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to exercise judgement and take responsibility to actions
  • Knowledge of office procedures including audio typing

Skills & abilities

Essential criteria
  • Good Keyboard Skills
  • Effective and polite manner when dealing with enquiries over the telephone.
  • Confidence to handle difficult conversations with patient’s relatives and carers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines within a stressful environment whilst maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
