Applications are invited for the post of a Consultant General Paediatrician with a special interest in Diabetes and Endocrinology.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated colleague to join our established team of General Paediatricians.

We will be looking for someone with Diabetes experience and ideally SPIN (not essential, can be supported in post) and Endocrine experience to join our team.

There are 6.5 programmed activities available. This post includes general paediatric work but no on-call.

The post holder will join 2 other consultants as part of our multidisciplinary diabetic team and enabling us to continue to meet the Department of Health Best Practice guidelines for paediatric diabetes.

In summary the post holder will contribute to the following clinical services:

                      Hospital based diabetes clinics, including transition clinics.

                      Endocrine Clinics

                      General Paediatric Clinic

                      Support to the new SPLASH service.

                      Ward consults for patients with diabetes

                      Supervision of junior doctors.

                      The care and support of other team members and colleagues.

                      SPA activity

Swydd ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

The post holder will provide multidisciplinary team clinics for general diabetes care, dedicated appointments for those using insulin pumps, and once per month evening clinics for the transition age group – jointly with a transition PDSN and members of the adult diabetes team.

They will attend the diabetes team’s multidisciplinary business meeting and also a clinically focused patient review meeting 1-2 times per month. The post holder will be expected to contribute to quality improvement work and some management roles within the diabetes team, and to deliver departmental teaching in diabetes to ward staff. 

The post-holder will be expected to have, or potentially develop, a specialist knowledge of endocrinology working alongside Tertiary specialists in a shared care model as well as having an independent caseload of children & young people with a range of endocrinological conditions. 

The post holder will also provide medical input into SPLASH clinics - a commissioned service for pre-school children with severe obesity.

The post holder will provide general paediatric clinics.

  • • To have achieved a CCT OR Can provide evidence that he/she is within 6 months of the CCT date at the time of interview, and is expected to achieve CCT
  • MRCPCH
  • APLS

Experience

  • A least 12 months experience of working in diabetes
  • At least 6 month experience working in endocrinology
  • Expertise in General Paediatrics

Skills

  • Willingness to take a lead in developing/managing a clinical area
  • Well experienced in teaching and training
