The South Gloucestershire Early Intervention Team are looking for an experienced and passionate Clinical Psychologist to join our team.

Following the implementation of the Community Mental Health Framework set out by NHS England, the team is expanding and developing to be able to provide specialist interventions to those experiencing a first episode of psychosis or at ultra high risk of developing psychosis (ARMS). 

The service currently consists of a Team Manager, Consultant Psychiatrist, , Senior Practitioner, Community Mental Health Practitioners, CBT Therapists, Mental Health Support Worker, Administrators, specialist Physical Health and Vocational Practitioners, and a Peer Support Worker.

The South Gloucestershire Early Intervention in Psychosis team works with people aged 14- 65 who are experiencing a first episode psychosis or who may be at risk of developing a psychosis. The team works Monday to Friday 9-5; however, depending on service user need the team offer some flexibility outside of these hours.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist with experience and enthusiasm in leading on complex psychological interventions to contribute to the provision of services for these people and their families.

This is an exciting time to join Early Intervention, with the role out of new standards and the opportunity to train and develop specialist skills.

1. To offer a highly specialist and entirely autonomous systematic complex psychological intervention service within the EI service.
2. To provide an advanced and specialist assessment and treatment role in the sectors, using relevant CPD qualifications for clients presenting with high levels of distress/emotion/ behavioural disturbance.
3. To offer regular Clinical supervision (both individual and group) to peers, trainees and other professionals from the local delivery units and other parts of the service.
4. To undertake regular teaching, as appropriate, in psychological approaches to healthcare to trainees, team members and associate CPI practitioners.
5. To plan and implement service developments regarding specialist areas of skill linked to service priorities.
6. To provide a lead role for the CPI within EI.

Key Result Areas
CLINICAL
1. To offer a highly specialist assessment and treatment service using relevant skills and CPD qualifications to service users referred to the EI service.
2. To provide clinical supervision and consultancy to sector staff with regard to problem assessment and formulation, and therapy interventions.
3. To participate in clinical supervision and caseload supervision arrangements provided by the EI service.
4. To provide an advanced and specialist treatment role in the sector, using appropriate specialist interventions with patients presenting with complex and severe needs.
6. To provide an advanced and specialist psychological assessment (including risk assessment) and treatment service to service-users in the sector.


PROFESSIONAL
1. To work within professional codes of practice and the Health Professional Council’s (HPC) Standards. To work using best and evidence based practice.
2. To fully observe relevant professional guidelines such as the BPS (1996) Code of Conduct and the DCP Guidelines for the Professional Practice of Clinical Psychology (1995) or equivalent.
3. To participate in EI service business and professional meetings where agreed.
4. To maintain and further develop high standards of the EI service, through co-operative work with other  members and peer supervision.
5. To be aware of and adhere to Trust Policies and Procedures.

TRAINING AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT
1. To supervise trainees, staff and associate EI workers, providing group and individual therapy.
2. To offer training in psychological approaches to healthcare to other staff in the multidisciplinary team and to staff from other parts of the service.
3. To agree a plan for personal development with the EI line manager and participate in an annual review.


SERVICE DEVELOPMENT
1. To advise the local Clinical Managers about service priorities and potential developments in the specified area.
2. To participate in EI service management and consultation meetings, providing local CPI advice.


RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
1. To initiate research as required by the needs of the local Service.
2. To offer advice and support to other members of relevant teams undertaking research projects.
3. To supervise trainees to undertake relevant audit / service evaluation projects as appropriate.
4. To participate in Clinical Audit projects in the EI service.
5. To encourage a culture of evidence based practice in all parts of the Service.

  • Two years' post qualification and experience working with people suffering with psychosis (and their families)

Experience and skills

  • Experience of delivery of training
