This post is for 8 PA . The Trust is seeking a Specialty Doctor to join the medical team working with the North Wiltshire Intensive Service.
The post holder will play a key role in the multi-disciplinary Team providing advice and assessment of patients under the Intensive service. The Intensive team works closely with secondary mental health teams when managing referrals. Most referrals come through the Primary Care Liaison and Memory Service, Community Mental Health Teams and the Mental Health Liaison Team.
The medical team provide clinical advice and leadership in a number of settings and interactions throughout their working week rather than at
designated times only in their weekly timetable. The post holder will be managing the team caseload alongside the consultant. There are weekly
case reviews where an MDT approach reviews more complex presentations. This facilitates team discussion and creation of a team formulation.

Main duties of the job
- To attend the daily NWIS Handover meeting and to attend the weekly NWIS Case Review Meeting
- To assess and treat service users in the community and/or in reviews at Green Lane Hospital
- To support the team with medical input as required.
- Undertake urgent psychiatric assessments when necessary.
- To liaise with other parts of the service and GPs and non-NHS organisations wherever applicable.
- To be responsible for the day-to-day management of general adult patients. i.e. history taking, diagnosis, note keeping, report and letter writing, psychiatry and physical examination, pharmacological treatment and discharge planning.
- To contribute to the development of acute care services in line with best practice and nationally accredited standards
- To receive ECT training (provided to all inpatient medical staff). The SAS doctor would not participate in the regular ECT rota but may be asked to administer ECT at exceptional times
- To provide clinical leadership and consultation for Intensive Team members, supporting them in providing home based care and facilitating safe and timely transitions for patients between Inpatient and community services
- Assess and treat patients referred to the Intensive Team advising on management plans through regular Team reviews, handovers, and advice to Team members. Please refer to the accompanying job description for full details on the roles and responsibilities of this post.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Basic Medical Qualification (MBBS or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
- Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
- Section 12 Approval
Eligibilty
Essential criteria
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice, or eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of confirmaiton of appointment
- Completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in Psychiatry or as a fixed term specialty trainee in Psychiatry; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
Skills

- Ability to manage own time and workload and prioritise clinical work
- Ability to appraise own performance
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of specific achievements that demonstrate leadership skills
Research and Audit
Essential criteria
- Ability to critically appraise published research.
- Experience of carrying out an audit project

- Experience in involvement in a research project and publication.
- Interest in research
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Up to date knowledge of issues in Mental Health Service for this specialty.
Teaching
Essential criteria
- Commitment to teaching other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Desirable criteria
- Teaching of undergraduate students
- PGCME or equivalent/aspiration to attain a postgraduate teaching qualification
