Job overview

To implement and oversee maintenance of the quality and governance of elective plain imaging, providing a high level clinical input with regards to the general x-ray service

First line managerial responsibilities for all aspects of the elective service including staff recruitment, appraisals, sickness management, assisting in the monitoring of performance management with regards to technique and quality.

The post holder will be the source of expert knowledge for the department in elective radiography issues and matters.

To provide an x-ray service to the Trust, by providing high quality images and being a clinical role model.

To assist with the teaching, learning and the support structure for all types of trainees and learners in elective radiography, working with the Practice Educators to achieve a productive learning environment.

Main duties of the job

Clinical - Communication and Relationship skills

  • Demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in providing compassionate care for patients, visitors/relatives and colleagues.
  • To manage patient flow departmentally and inter-departmentally.
  • Contribute towards sharing good practice within the Radiology department and Trust wide.
  • Promote a positive image of University Hospital Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust at all times.
  • Work cohesively with all members of the team ensuring that the very best services to patients are provided at all times.
  • Communicate effectively within the team whilst maintaining confidentiality with patients and carers in line with the Trust Information and Governance policy.
  • Work cohesively with Section Head and other plain imaging leads to ensure adequate service provision and support for staff.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues external to the teams to ensure all patients receive care which is of a safe and high standard.
  • Communicate with MEMO CE and Medical Physics to ensure all equipment is maintained at the highest operational levels and within safety limits

Clinical – Patient Care

  • To support junior staff Interpret the referrer’s requirements and determine the appropriate radiographic technique as required, consulting with the referring team when appropriate.
  • Promote the delivery of patient centred care within your area of responsibility.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Sound knowledge of CRIS and PACS systems.
  • High level of clinical expertise.
  • Understanding of College of Radiographers Code of Practice and requirements of it for practice and behaviour and its application to the management of staff and self.
  • Understanding of HCPC Professional standards and requirements of it for practice and behaviour and its application to the management of staff and self.
  • Experience of implementing and managing clinical audit or research.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of managing a department or service.
