Job overview

We are looking to appoint a Senior Theatre Practitioner for Orthopaedics/Trauma  to lead and support  RUH elective Orthopaedics/Trauma based at the Royal United Hospital Bath.

This is a great opportunity for an ambitious theatre professional to develop their experience and skills in a Senior role, as the RUH undergoes significant changes to the way our Orthopaedic and Trauma services are delivered.

 This post will have the expectation to work closely with other Members of the senior team.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to maintain the highest standards of clinical care and practice.   You will work as a skilled member of the Theatre team in leading, providing, and maintaining high standards of perioperative care.

You will have a higher knowledge of team leadership and management of human and financial resources and a personable nature.

You will be innovative within your approach, able to prioritise your own workload and that of others, and have excellent communication skills. You will also demonstrate a flexible working approach and coordinate with other colleagues in multi-disciplinary teams.   A broad experience and knowledge of Human Resource processes would be desirable.

 

Main duties of the job

  1. Lead by example and display a leadership style that empowers staff and nurtures development at all levels.
  2. Act independently and use own initiative and inspire others through action and setting a professional and positive example, challenging traditional practices and encourage innovative problem solving amongst staff.
  3. To carry overall responsibility and accountability for their department or area.
  4. To promote a patient-focussed approach to care in collaboration with carers and relevant healthcare professionals.
  5. To be responsible for developing and sustaining own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness. Facilitate staff to fulfil CPD requirements and to maintain a professional profile.
  6. To work with the Theatre Team, Lead Nurse / Practitioner and Practice Development Team in developing and implementing theatre clinical practice

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse Part 1 & 2 State registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council or Registered HCPC Operating Department Practitioner
  • Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Post-registration recognised qualification – preferably in specialty area 1 st Degree or working towards

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice, particularly within the recovery environment and the application of this in practice
  • Through understanding of equality and diversity and its application to managing self, staff and patients within own area
  • Understanding of NMC/HCPC Code of conduct and the requirements of it
  • Understanding of the application of effective budgetary management
  • Understanding of the theory and application of clinical governance
  • Demonstrable experience of coordinating patients at a senior level in a Theatre environment with experience of managing conflicting demands
Desirable criteria
  • Thorough understanding of management of COSHH and Health and Safety of Patients, Staff and Visitors in the hospital environment
  • Experience of Human Resource management and application
