Post CCT Fellow in GI and Abdominal Radiology

NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

Applications are invited for a Post CCT Fellow in GI and Abdominal Radiology at the Royal United Hospital Bath. This is a fixed term post expected to start in August/September 2025, for a period of one year.

The post offers experience in all aspects of GI imaging and intervention with particular emphasis on GI cancer imaging, percutaneous biopsies and MDTs and specialist luminal GI imaging techniques. The department has an on-site PET-CT scanner and experience will be provided in PET-CT interpretation for GI and CUP MDTs. There is flexibility to accommodate experience in a second imaging subspecialty or non-vascular intervention if desired.

Up to two sessions are protected for academic work or specialist imaging/interventional sessions as desired.

This post is full time but anyone wishing to work part time is also encouraged to apply. There is an expectation that the appointed fellow will take part in the registrar tier on-call rota. The on-call covers 1700-2000 on weekdays and 0800-1800 on weekends. This runs in parallel to the on-call consultant who is onsite to supervise the on-call registrar at these times. There is no overnight component to the registrar tier rota. Rota frequency is expected to be between 1 in 7 and 1 in 9.

Candidates are encouraged to visit the hospital and can make arrangements through contacting the Clinical Lead, Dr. Gary Cross, email [email protected] or Dr. Matthew Laugharne, Lead GI Radiologist, email [email protected].

Main duties of the job

This is a fixed term post for a period of one year. The job plan will be based around 7-8 sessions of abdominal CT and MRI reporting, fluoroscopy, intervention and GI MDTs, 1-2 general reporting sessions (rotating between acute CT, US, GP plain film and hot reporting), with 1 session protected for audit and research work or specialist imaging/interventional sessions as desired. A second subspecialty can be accommodated if desired on discussion with the department. There is an expectation that the appointed fellow will take part in the registrar tier on-call rota.

The fellow will work under the supervision of 6 Consultants with subspecialty interests in GI Imaging to further develop experience and expertise in all aspects of GI Radiology.

There are opportunities to develop experience in other abdominal imaging eg reporting GU CT and prostate MRI, or further a second subspecialty interest if desired.

There is a growing research portfolio within the Radiology department and the RUH is a partner in the National Consortium of Intelligent Medical Imaging, working with industry partners to develop AI in Radiology.
