Job overview

The post holder will be an integral part of the Cancer Office team, delivering a high level of communication throughout the patient’s cancer pathway.  Effective processing of the rapid referrals will facilitate the Trust in achieving the National Cancer Waiting Times Standards and meeting the targets, National Peer Review measures and other standards.  Post holder will be a single point of contact for patients on the colorectal suspected cancer pathway.

The post holder will be responsible for the organisation and tracking of a defined group of patients across all departments to which they may transverse (radiology, pathology etc), troubleshooting where there are problems in patient pathways and providing proactive information in anticipation of potential problems, escalating as necessary.

The post holder is responsible for ensuring accurate information is electronically stored in a timely and co-ordinated manner.

The post holder will work supervised for the majority of the time alongside the Colorectal Cancer Pathway Navigator, MDT co-ordinators, Colorectal Nurse Practitioners and Cancer Services Manager/Deputy Cancer Services Manager.

Main duties of the job

·       Contributing to ensuring Suspected Cancer Two Week Wait referrals are processed within cancer services SOP guidelines; 

·       To accurately transpose information across various data systems;

·       To work closely with the administrative and clinical teams to introduce and improve data collection systems across each patient pathway;

·       Appropriately track patient investigations in order to alert the MDT co-ordinator and Pathway Navigator to the possibility of MDT discussion;

·       Be responsible for monitoring the Trust’s adherence to the National Cancer Waiting Times targets. Ensuring all information to demonstrate compliance with National Cancer Waiting time targets is entered onto SCR in a timely manner;

·       Adhere to tracking systems for all patients suspected with cancer in order to ensure compliance with relevant targets up to diagnosis;

·       Develop a good working knowledge of anatomy, cancer terminology, types of cancer treatment, the drugs and medication used for treatment, medical coding, radiology and pathology;

·       Liaising with GP’s and to be the single point of contact for patients referred on the Colorectal suspected cancer pathway to facilitate the swift diagnosis of patients on the suspected cancer pathway
