Health Care Support Worker - Paediatrics Diabetes

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Health Care Support Worker to join our amazing Paedatric Diabetes team.

Are you motivated and enjoy the challenges of helping to look after children and young people? Do you want to be part of a proactive and dedicated paediatric team and develop your skills? If your answer is yes, then this could be the job for you. Shifts will start at 0800 and are 10 hour shifts. This would be on a Monday and Tuesday each week.

To assist in the management of caseload of approximately 240 children and young people with Type 1 Diabetes, under the supervision of the Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurses.  To carry out routine and additional / extended role duties, when trained and assessed as competent, as instructed by and under the supervision of the registered nurse in charge.

What tasks will you do?

  • To take a lead role in the efficient and smooth running of Paediatric Diabetes Clinics at Frome Medical Centre and Chippenham Community Hospital.
  • Under direction, to undertake additional duties including examples as follows:
  • To be competent to do blood glucose and blood ketone checks and interpret readings
  • To be competent to teach others to undertake blood glucose and blood ketone checking and insulin injections.
  • Under direction from PDSN be able to deliver elements of diabetes education using Goals of Diabetes Education framework.
