Job overview

We are looking for a forward thinking Senior Business Manager to support our Chief Operating Officer by playing a key role in managing the strategic and operational management of the COO office.

 Everyone at the RUH has the opportunity to make a difference and you will be pivotal in the provision of business support to the Chief Operating Officer and the senior team by managing the day-to-day operational issues to include developing the implementation of effective office systems, control processes, budget management and risk management arrangements

As an individual you will possess a strong ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to create the conditions for successful partnership working.

To succeed you will demonstrate a successful track record of managing an effective support service in a complex system. Additionally, you will have a high level of analytical skills and the ability to think and plan strategically, tactically and creatively whilst adjusting plans and resource requirements accordingly.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will synthesise information from a wide range of internal and external sources, using it to provide high quality advice and support to the COO and their team. They will also provide strategic support to several work streams on behalf of the CO, ensuring they deliver as required by providing input to policy and decision making at a Trust level.

The post holder will also support the delivery of the strategic priorities of the office through both internal and external partnership building, relationship management and inter professional collaboration.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This Business Manager is a key post within the Chief Operating Officer’s senior team. In conjunction with the senior team, the post holder will support the Chief Operating Officer by managing the implementation of multiple initiatives and the delivery of services within the Divisions, to ensure the strategic aims of the Chief Operating Officer is met. The post holder will be responsible for strategic and operational management of the COO office.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Educated to masters degree level or equivalent or demonstrable work experience to this level.
  • Demonstrate a successful track record of managing and delivering an effective support service and providing strategic advice on options regarding service delivery.
  • Experience of working in partnerships across multiple organisations to secure change
  • Experience of researching best practice and of identifying and interpreting national policy, and translating this in to local policy and procedure
  • NHS experience or equivalent of managing programmes of work, particularly service development and facilitating and managing change across a complex health system

Skills/Knowledge & Abilities

  • A proven ability to plan strategically and a proven track record of creating a common purpose and instilling organisational values and behaviours that promotes a corporate vision
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of working with a diverse range of stakeholders and a successful track record of influence and engagement
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including proven listening and communication skills
  • Sound political judgement and astuteness in understanding and working with complex policy, and diverse interest groups
