Job overview

The Nursing and Quality Directorate is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to support the Practice Education Facilitator functions for the trust. This is a great opportunity for someone to build on their significant clinical experience to hone their skills and knowledge as a Practice Education Facilitator (PEF).

You will build and maintain supportive relationships with our Operational colleagues, in order to support Practice Assessors, Practice Supervisors and clinical placement providers to deliver the very best learning opportunities for our future nurses. This includes the implementation and embedding of the NMC's standards. With support and guidance from the Lead PEF, your role will be busy, diverse and varied, and will include delivering Practice Assessor/Supervisor updates, placement audits, liaising with our key academic partners and supporting our student nurses to excel in their clinical placements with AWP.

You will work with PEF colleagues to gain a strong understanding of this complex role, across both BNSSG and BSW divisions. Due to the Trust-wide remit of this role, access to your own transport is essential

Main duties of the job

This role is an integral part of AWPs Nursing Careers and Professional Standards Team, and focusses on improving the experience, quality and diversity of nurse education across AWP. With the support and direction of Senior Practice Education Facilitators, the post holder will:

  • Assess the quality of potential clinical placements, and support the development of new or expanded placements within AWP and its partner organisations
  • Model, articulate and promote good practice around the NMC Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment (SSSA)
  • Maximise placement capacity for pre-registration student nurses and other trainee roles allied to nursing.
  • Support the creation, development and evaluation of viable clinical practice placements, in both nursing and non-nursing settings, within the local health and social care network, under the indirect supervision of AWP’s Practice Education Team (NCPS)
  • Support the development of newer roles aligned to nursing, such the Nursing Associate.

We are AWP (Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust): a diverse organisation with over 5,000 dedicated staff providing inpatient and community-based mental health care.

We provide services from a range of locations to approximately 1.8 million people living in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, across the county of Wiltshire and in parts of Dorset.

Our outstanding people promote mental health and wellbeing. The expertise and resources within AWP are dedicated to a person-centred approach for those who use our services and for all employees. We recognise that happy and fulfilled employees give better care.
