Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Ward Clerk to join our friendly and hard working team at Whitchurch Hosiptal. The purpose of the role is to effectively support clinical staff and outside agencies in an administration role in a busy ward environment. This role requires someone highly motivated, well organised and confident in using their own initative, computer systems whilst having a good eye for accuracy. There will also be the opportunities to support our busy hard working receptionists on the front desk to cover during busy periods
As you will be the first point of the contact for the phone and visitors to the ward, this role requires good communication skills. Empathy and compassion from you will help to continue with the excellent patient care we aim to deliver.
At a time when we are moving to 'paperless' record keeping, current experience of NHS working with computers is key, however full training will be provided if required.

Main duties of the job
- Acting as the first point of the contact for the phone and visitors to the ward.
- Working closely with teams e.g. Therapy, Discharge-Co-ordinator, regarding admissions and discharges.
- Accurate record keeping.
- To assist with arranging of patient transport.
- Dealing with outside agencies e.g. nursing homes, GPs. Funeral Directors'
- Using daily IT systems e.g RIO to record patient information and support ward staff
- Dealing with medical records
- Supporting nursing staff with administration on a daily basis.
- To contact IT Department as required.
- Deal with mail and deliveries.
- General administrative work.

Essential criteria
- RSA Stage II computer processing/NVQ II in business administration or equivalent experience.
- Good level of general education.
- IT Skills - ECDL.
- Working knowledge of computerised systems and ability to learn quickly.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
