Job overview
An exciting opportunity to join the Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust as a qualified Sonographer and Clinical Skills Trainer.
The primary purpose of this role is to ensure abdominal ultrasound scanning is undertaken to a high standard and in accordance with national standard operating procedures.
Main duties of the job
The Clinical Skills Trainer (CST) is pivotal in ensuring that screening staff are competent to perform scans. CSTs also need to be competent in providing:
· local training
· support and mentoring to trainee screeners
· workplace assessment of staff
· undertake clinic observations or competency assessments of screening technicians
· complete internal quality assurance of images
· Perform scans on men who have had non-visualised aortas on initial scan.
· Use clinical judgement for men with incidental finds and aorta anomalies as per local guidance.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- • Postgraduate diploma or certificate in ultrasound or equivalent relevant CASE/SVT accredited qualification
- • A minimum of two years post registration experience
- • Specialist training (NAAASP) approved CST course) - this can be provided to the successful applicant once in the role.
- • Registration HCPC
Desirable criteria
- • Teaching/mentoring qualification
- • CAVA Qualification
Qualifications

- • Experience of scanning Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms
- • Good understanding of abdominal cross sectional anatomy, specifically relating to the abdominal aorta
- • Experience in undertaking sonographic examinations unsupervised and of preparing appropriate reports
- • Sound technical knowledge
- • Ability to clearly and accurately convey skills required to undertake sonographic examination and diagnosis of certain conditions of the vascular system
- • Extensive experience of training others in the workforce especially those without prior experience.
- • Understanding of hospital environment and patient care and confidentiality.
- • Understanding of commonly used medical terminology
- • Accurate data entry skills
