This is an exciting opportunity to develop our critical care services across both Royal Shrewsbury and Princess Royal Hospital sites.
This post will join other Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists and assistants in the critical care unit
This post will support the development of patient clinical pathways as part of the MDT and keep abreast with latest evidence based practice .
The post holders will be expected to drive service development for dietetics and support more junior staff to develop their clinical expertise in this area.
The post holder will have clinical experience in critical care and will be able to demonstrate appropriate expertise and be able to provide evidence of successful implementation of service improvements work.
The Hospital Transformation project will be moving all of critical care services eventually in the next few years onto the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital site .
The Post holder will drive service development for Dietetics within the unit
Main duties of the job
To lead and provide expert dietetic care to patient in Critical Care units and to follow patients onto the ward as appropriate.
Patients on non-oral nutritional support should be assessed within 24 hours of admission to critical care to meet GPIC standards
Within GPICS there is a requirement for a team of Dietitians to have at least one Dietitian trained to advance practice level (band 7) who is able to carry out extended roles, for example:
• Inserting feeding tubes
• Using indirect calorimetry to determine energy expenditure
• Supplementary prescribing
To provide support and education to colleagues both within and outside of the unit.
To demonstrate evidence of clinical expertise in this field and working to evidence based practice.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree in Dietetics
Desirable criteria
- BDA critical care qualification
- MSC qualification or equivalent in relevant area
- Member of BDA Critical Care Specialist interest group
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience working in critical care
- Experience of teaching and presentations related to clinical area
- Experience of leading and implementing service developments and audit in this clinical area
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence of recent CPD activity related to critical care
- Demonstrates knowledge of latest evidence based practice in this area
Skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Demonstrates leadership skills to motivate staff
- Proven ability to problem solve
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt ever changing priorities
- Demonstrates use of initiative
