Are you an Occupational Therapist looking for an exciting development opportunity? Do you want to be part of an innovative Occupational Therapy service developing the role of the profession within a rehabilitation setting? If so, this is the job for you.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Community Therapy Team at Ystradgynlais Community Hospital.

The role provides rehabilitation to Adelina Patti ward with a view to aiding discharge back home into the community and providing ongoing therapy to meet rehabilitation goals. The role will work flexibly to support both the ward and the community therapy team with referrals.

This is an exciting time for the team who has a "Home First" service to prevent hospital admission and also aid discharge back into the community. The team is comprised of an Occupational Therapy Team Lead, Occupational Therapists, a Physiotherapist, Rehabilitation Therapy Assistants and Assistant Therapy Practitioners and work flexibly to meet the needs of the local population.

This post may be offered under Annex 21 AfC Terms and conditions, subject to experience, competency and suitability.

The ability to travel between sites in a timely manner is essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a specialist Occupational Therapy Service  for Powys Teaching Health Board (PTHB), responsible for:

Managing a caseload of clients with complex needs, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan implement and evaluate interventions.

Provide leadership for junior staff through supervision and appraisal.

Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Occupational Therapy services within a designated area/team, holding responsibility for defined projects.

Contribute to the maintenance and development of Powys Teaching Health Board Occupational Therapy Service.

Regularly supervise Occupational Therapy students on practice placements.

Deputise for Team Leader when necessary.

Work flexible across locality and participate in the 7-day rota to meet the service needs

Provide cover in other areas/specialities as appropriate and within competencies.

Provide a flexible service in locations most appropriate to patient’s needs, e.g. home, school, community hospital or leisure centre

Allocate work to support staff, at all times monitoring their skills and competencies.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC Registered
  • Evidence of significant post graduate training e.g. range of short courses, in-house training
  • Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Specialist knowledge and application of Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions relevant to client group
  • Detailed knowledge of the principals of clinical governance and its application
Desirable criteria
  • Effective teaching and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of Occupational Therapy models of practice

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical fieldwork educator
  • Supervision of junior staff
  • Evidence of commitment to multi-disciplinary working
  • Awareness Ability to work autonomously and set own prioritiesof current practice issues
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working within a Community setting

Aptitudes and Abilities
