Job overview

There is an exciting new opportunity for a registered Dental Nurse to join the community dental service team, where quality of care is the primary focus.  The team consists of experienced Dentists, Dental Nurses, Dental Therapists and administrative staff, where skill mixing is encouraged.  You will need to be motivated, enthusiastic and have excellent communication skills.  The post holder will be based in Newtown and will be expected to travel to other clinic locations at least once a week. 

The Community Dental Service comprises of a wide range of locations, specialities and services which involve primary dental care, consultant led secondary care, special needs and priority group patients in both the clinic and domiciliary setting.  This includes Schools, residential and nursing homes, epidemiological surveys, and oral health promotion/education.

Training, development, and skill mixing of the dental workforce is encouraged and supported.

The hours of work are 15 over 2 days, one of which maybe a Saturday.

Main duties of the job

The Dental Nurse will work as part of the team, providing assistance to 
clinicians within the Dental Service, plus arranging and supporting the clinician  with any domiciliary visits, screening, epidemiology and research programmes. They will be expected to work autonomously, seeking advice when required. The post holder will be expected to carry out all related clerical and administrative duties to ensure efficient operation of the clinic/department. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualification / Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • National certificate for DN's or equivalent
  • Registered with GDC
  • Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Post basic certificate in any of the following Sedation, SC, Radiography, Oral Health, Orthodontics
  • Knowledge of the role of the CDS

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of being competent in Dental Administration, prioritising tasks and managing deadlines
  • Keyboard skills, outlook, word, Excel
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with the public, special care pts and the elderly
  • Experience of working in an environment where tact, diplomacy and confidentiality required
