The Clinical Pharmacist will be part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team responsible for delivering excellent clinical care and advice to the Trust.

The pharmacist will provide professional leadership and advice on all matters associated with medicines optimisation and clinical pharmacy services across the Trust. They will drive service improvement and efficiencies through increased use of technology and data analysis to inform and drive service improvement, enabling best and most efficient use of resources. The pharmacist will be responsible for providing specialist knowledge and advice on pharmaceutical matters, including the safe storage, handling, administration and disposal of medicines. This will involve influencing and supporting other healthcare professionals to produce Standard Operating Procedures and to participate in risk assessments of medicines.

General

  • Perform the professional role of a registered pharmacist which includes advice, supervision, co-operation, problem solving, and training and support of colleagues.
  • The post holder will be required to provide expert and specialist knowledge in relation to medicinal products and their use as well as assist in the development of new clinical protocols and treatment options including the development of patient group directives directions
  • Develop guidelines, policies and procedures for medicines use within the Trust as required.
  • Respond to medicines related queries from Trust staff
  • To support and help collect data for clinical and procedural audits
  • Assist the Chief pharmacist in the preparation of reports to Medicine Optimisation and Governance Group and operational line managers, lead clinicians, summarising clinical and medicine activities and medicines utilisation trends within the locality and across the Trust.
  • Develop systems to ensure medicinal products are stored appropriately and securely on all Trust premises and vehicles, complying with national, statutory and local requirement

About Us

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of emergency, urgent care and non-emergency healthcare services, along with commercial logistics services.

The Trust delivers most of these services to the populations of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire as well as non-emergency patient transport services in Surrey and Sussex.

General

  • Develop guidelines, policies and procedures for medicines use within the Trust as required.
  • Respond to medicines related queries from Trust staff
  • To support and help collect data for clinical and procedural audits
  • Assist the Chief pharmacist in the preparation of reports to Medicine Optimisation and Governance Group and operational line managers, lead clinicians, summarising clinical and medicine activities and medicines utilisation trends within the locality and across the Trust.
  • Develop systems to ensure medicinal products are stored appropriately and securely on all Trust premises and vehicles, complying with national, statutory and local requirements
  • Assist the Chief Pharmacist on all matters relating to medicine management and governance within the Trust.
  • Attend meetings as a deputy to Chief Pharmacist as required
  • To liaise with other clinical pharmacists, prescribers and other health care professionals as appropriate using verbal, written and electronic methods as appropriate
  • To provide expertise and clinical leadership on medicines optimisation as part of a team within a pre-hospital setting
  • To facilitate the implementation of local and national guidance, including NICE and Quality Standards where appropriate
  • Manage clinical incidents involving medicines and explore ways of minimising risk of future re-occurrence
  • Implement changes to medicines that result from MHRA alerts, product withdrawal and other local and national guidance
  • To support the Medicines Manager in the operational delivery of medicines services throughout the Trust
  • To act as a line manager within the pharmacy team and support the management of the operational Pharmacy Team

 

Clinical Education

 

  • To work with the learning and development leads in the Trust to ensure medicines related education and training of all clinical staff and non-clinical staff using medicines is developed and delivered in line with national and local requirements
  • Complete regular CPD to ensure that knowledge is continually updated
  • To act as a role model for pharmacists developing advanced practice skills
  • Attend relevant pharmacy courses where applicable and with Trust
  • To deliver teaching sessions both in house and externally to paramedics, medical and nursing staff and other health care professionals as requested authorisation

 

Clinical Audit and Research

  • To participate and support in clinical, departmental and national audits, measure adherence to local and national guidelines and provide relevant feedback
  • To regularly initiate or contribute to relevant practice research or audit projects and to publish the results of such work, as appropriate.
  • To participate in other research and audit programmes in the department as required
  • To maintain and further develop specialist information on the use of drugs in clinical conditions relevant to the specialty.
  • To publish and present the results and outcomes of own research and audits locally, nationally or internationally as appropriate

  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • ost Graduate MSc/Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience and/or qualifications
