We are delighted to announce a new opportunity to apply for 2 new Oxford Improvement & Innovation Fellow posts linked to the Emergency Department at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust is committed to expanding and embedding quality improvement and innovation across the organization. These posts are an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of this work.

Applications are invited from core- and specialist-level doctors in training with a passion for Quality Improvement (QI), as well as those who have completed higher specialist training and would like to do a post-CCT fellowship in QI. As the placements are not currently formally recognized for clinical training, higher specialist trainees will need to apply to their local Deanery for Out of Programme Experience (OOPE).

We are seeking to appoint fellows to start as soon as possible after August 2024. Each post will be fixed term appointment of 6-12 months duration depending on the start date and subject to negotiation. Each post will combine 50% clinical work in the emergency department with 50% dedicated time to work on one or more of the Trust’s priority Quality Improvement projects.

Applications for less than full time posts will also be considered. Salary will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ stage of clinical training.

Please note applicants for this post must have a minimum of three years clinical experience post foundation years, and have completed full MRCEM (or equivalent), in addition to demonstrable experience of quality improvement. Applicants who do not meet these criteria will not be shortlisted.

In the Emergency Department, you will be responsible for the initial assessment and management of unselected acutely ill and injured patients (both adult and paediatric). Clinical shifts are undertaken on a full shift, annualised rota in either of the Trusts Emergency Departments. This allows a mix of Major Trauma and teaching hospital experience alongside more local ED type presentations.  

As a clinical Fellow in the ED you will contribute to the supervision and training of more junior doctors (GP trainees, ACCS and FY2 doctors). 

He/she/they will assist with clinical administration, for example, checking X-ray reports, corresponding with patients and their general practitioners. He/she/they will have opportunities to participate in the department’s Clinical Governance activities, including departmental audit, and national audits required by the Healthcare Commission. He/she/they will also be expected to attend departmental teaching sessions. He/she/they will be responsible for keeping his/her/their resuscitation training up to date.
