Specialist Nurse Practitioner
Band 6
37.5 hours per week
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in Dermatology Outpatients with a dynamic group of nurses and doctors that positively push the boundaries of nursing practice. We have an excellent track record of developing and training nurses to a high level.
We work in a friendly team orientated environment with good facilities and have good working relationships with multidisciplinary team members. Working hours will be 37.5 per week between Monday to Friday with no bank holidays or night duty.
These hours may be reviewed depending on service needs, including compacted hours.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate and further develop sound clinical dermatology skills. You will be expected to support key areas of dermatology including undertaking nurse led clinics and supporting doctors by providing specialist treatment following diagnosis of dermatological conditions. The role will involve undertaking investigations, administering medication, and providing educational support to patients and the nursing team whilst working alongside medical and nursing staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Applicants will be expected to have a minimum of one to two years’ experience in a dermatology setting and any specialist experience would be desirable. Developmental training will be provided. The post holder will need to demonstrate sound management skills, to manage their own workload and that of junior staff.

Essential criteria
- Registered nurse part 1 or 8 or 12 or 15 of register (depending on area of practice)
- At least 1 years’ experience of working in dermatology specialty
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrable post graduate level working
- Teaching/assessment/mentoring qualification
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates up to date knowledge in dermatology
- Evidence in personal development
- Evidence of effective multi-disciplinary team working
Desirable criteria
- Experience of applying research evidence to clinical practice
Skills
Essential criteria
- Previous experience of treating dermatological conditions
- Previous experience of teaching of patients and staff
- Demonstrates skilled written, verbal and non-verbal, communication skills
- Experience in running nurse led clinics
Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of ability to work collaboratively
- Leadership skills
- Experience of acting as a clinical supervisor, appraiser and mentor to others
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in audit and evaluation
- Experience in providing photosensitivity treatment to dermatology patients
- Experience providing specialist dermatology care/treatments
