Genomic Assistant - Cancer Triage

Band 3 Genomic Assistant (Cancer Triage)

The Oxford Centre for Genomic Medicine is seeking a collegiate, organised and compassionate individual to join our Cancer Triage service as a Genomic Assistant. The successful post holder will play a pivotal support role in helping our service prepare  and assess patients' risk for hereditary cancer prior to appointment with a  Genetic Counsellor/Clinical Geneticist or a letter from a Senior Genomics Nurse.

The post holder will be key in coordinating referrals and quality assessing medical family history diagrams, arranging blood samples for DNA storage, and requesting relevant medical documents from hospitals and the UK Cancer Registry in accordance with GDPR and guidance from the British Society for Genomic Medicine.

The post is ideal for an individual who wishes to develop towards becoming a Genomic Practitioner, and  potentially more senior clinical positions in clinical genetics accordance with career progression regulations and guidance published on AGNC, GCRAB and NSHCS websites. However, this post does not lead to registration as a Genetic Counsellor with either the HCPC or AHCS. 

Full time- Monday to Friday Office hours

* Drawing and quality checking medical family history drawings using software (Pedigree assistant/Phenotips) based on patient provided information.

* Organising DNA storage for patients or their relatives with advanced cancer

* Under direct supervision of a Senior Genomic Nurse, requesting medical confirmations of cancer diagnoses from pathology laboratories, medical records and the UK cancer registry in accordance with GDPR and the British Society for Genomic Medicine 

* Under direct supervision of a Senior Genomic Nurse, providing pre and post clinic support to Genetic Counsellors and Clinical Geneticists.
