Quality Lead - Senior Biomedical Scientist

Trosolwg o'r swydd

·   To support quality aspects of laboratory testing within haematology and biochemistry

·   When required supervise/organise staff/work within a section, ensuring work is completed within acceptable timescales and co-ordinate the training of all levels of staff within the section.

·     To perform, analyse, interpret, document and report both routine and highly complex laboratory investigations of a highly specialised nature commensurate with the professional grade that will impact directly on patient care.

·   The post holder will exercise autonomy within professional and managerial boundaries and will be required to verify and validate completed work.

·     To liaise/cooperate with hospital clinicians, general practitioners, other healthcare professionals, suppliers/manufacturers and their agents and accreditation bodies.

·       Participate in the strategic development of the quality section and deputise for their quality manager in their absence.

·       Develop highly specialist skills in all sections of the laboratory via internal rotation.

·       The work may include a requirement to work some out of routine hours duties as required.  This may require a flexible approach to the hours of employment subject to terms and conditions.

      The successful applicant will be required to travel to all sites in the fulfilment of their duties.

Quality Lead Responsibilities

·  To act as a deputy to the quality manager for biochemistry/haematology

·         Lead internal audits, following up and escalating findings, train and monitor others in the audit process.

·         Provide expert advice on the use of iPassport. Maintain staff lists, upload equipment logs, service reports, and meeting minutes updated. 

·         Advise and undertake SOP writing, auditing to ensure consistent document control.

·         Work with the laboratory management team to write and collate the annual management report.

·         Have a full understanding of the expectations of ISO 15189. 

·  Ensure temperature monitoring and pipette maintenance performed to ISO 15189 requirements.

· Undertake and coordinate verification and validation documentation in line with ISO 15189.

·        Ensure effective external quality assurance (EQA) processes in both departments.  

·         Maintain guidance to service users including departmental handbooks. 

·         Coordinate the departmental quality meetings including the minute taking and archiving.

·         Management and maintenance of Filemaker Databases. 

·         Liaising with EQA schemes required for accreditation.

·         Attend Quality Control and Clinical Governance Meetings. 

·         Manage the temperature monitoring system across all sites to meet accreditation requirements.

  • MSc Clinical Chemistry or Haematology or equivalent
  • Knowledge of all basic techniques within Clinical Biochemistry or Haematology
  • Skills and knowledge equivalent to Clinical Chemistry or Haematology Specialist portfolio

  • Quality Management training or qualification
  • Previous experience in NHS Diagnostic laboratory
  • Previous experience with equipment in use at OUH
