Job overview

We are looking for an excellent social worker.

We are the NHS provider of secure services for Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.  We provide a full range of inpatient and community services across this area of forensic care

Our social workers are integrated with the Forensic Community Mental Health Team, and we support people from hospital to the community, ensuring that their identified social care needs are met.

Based at the Oxford Clinic, Shabs and David will actively promote for you to be a relational based social worker and enhance your social work leadership skills to enable you to flourish in your role. We invest in higher level post qualifying professional development and our monthly social work forum is where our energetic collective meet to share ideas and talk about the messy stuff.

Main duties of the job

     To work independently as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assess, plan and implement person specific socially informed interventions within the community mental health framework, contributing to the continuous holistic assessment of people who use mental health services

     To participate in and contribute to the multi-disciplinary team, articulating the social perspective of mental health and ensuring that meeting the social care needs of service users retains a high priority and profile within the functioning of the team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will work within the Forensic services, providing social work expertise and statutory social care.

The post holder will ensure that all service users will have full assessment of their Care and Support needs under the Care Act 2014 or s.117 aftercare and that support planning takes place to meet these needs. 

The post holder will have a clear knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of safeguarding vulnerable adults under s.42 of the Care Act

The post holder will identify and address any barriers to promoting a social model of mental disorder, in partnership with service user, their family and support network and the multi-disciplinary team.

The post holder will provide expertise with regards to application of the Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act.

The post holder will demonstrate the skills and aptitude to maintain their Social Work professional identity when working within a Multi-Disciplinary team.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Qualified social worker or nearing completion of social work degree/Masters
  • Understanding of mental health conditions and models of mental disorder
  • Experience of assessing need and implementing and reviewing care and support packages
Desirable criteria
  • Qualified AMHP/BIA or higher level mental health qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Practical knowledge of the Care Act , Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act and associated codes of practice and statutory guidance
  • Knowledge of s.42 Care Act safeguarding adults and Making Safeguarding Personal
  • Knowledge of how to recognise different forms of abuse and harm and how raise a concern for both adults and children and young people
  • Recognising the importance of the social perspective of mental health and the importance of rights based person centred approaches
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the process of applications to the Court of Protection
  • Housing legislation

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrating the ability to use a strengths and rights based approach to social care assessments under the Care Act and s.117 aftercare
  • Ensuring that the social perspective of mental health is actively promoted to the wider MDT
  • Ability to use a range of communication skills to engage people who use mental health services
