If so, Oxfordshire Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Single Point of Access (SPA) could be for you! We are looking for applicants with clinical experience of working within mental health and/or with Children and Families, to join our SPA Team. 

The SPA is the initial contact for all children, young people, families and professionals wishing to contact Oxfordshire CAMHS. Our team provides consultation, promoting self help approach where appropriate, giving support, advice and expertise. When required the team will identify the appropriate CAMHS pathway to provide assessment.

The aim is to make it easier to access the most appropriate help, working closely with Children’s social care, GPs, School and Health referrers, as well as local charitable services. 

We welcome applicants from Nursing, Occupational Therapy or Social work, with clinically relevant knowledge acquired through post qualifying training and/or experience. We would also welcome applications for individuals suitable for a developmental role from Band 5 into a Band 6. 

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will be responsible for providing telephone clinical support to parents, carers and professionals supporting children with their mental health needs.

You will support the triage process, promoting positive mental health within the children’s workforce. Using specialist knowledge, and alongside the Senior SPA Practitioners, you will be responsible for determining when intervention from CAMHS is clinically indicated.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The general requirement for full time working is to work 7.5hrs per day, to be worked between SPA’s opening hours of Monday – Friday 9am - 5pm and our service is closed on Bank Holidays.

Our base is at Raglan House in Cowley, Oxford.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Mental Health or equivalent professional health qualification- e.g. Occupational Therapist, Nurse or Social Worker
Desirable criteria
  • Clinically relevant knowledge acquired through post qualifying training

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding risk assessment
  • Knowledge and understanding of mental health risk assessment
  • To have ability to organise own time and manage work load, and that of junior staff / learners, in relation to service needs and priorities
Desirable criteria
  • To work autonomously within the team

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with children and young people who have mental health difficulties.
Desirable criteria
  • Post qualification experience in a mental health setting, working with young people or adults with mental health difficulties
