Full time Band 7 Surgical Nurse Practitioner (Fixed term)
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in a busy Dermatology Outpatients department with a dynamic group of nurses and doctors. This post is a Fixed term contract for a year, with the potential to become permanent after one year.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to undertake a variety of skin surgery under local anaesthetic including skin biopsy, incisions, excisions, grafts, and flaps. Surgery will be undertaken in the four functioning procedure rooms which make up the Procedure Suite. The role will involve working autonomously along-side medical and nursing staff, working in line with Trust and departmental protocols.
A minimum of two years previous experience in undertaking surgery as a surgical nurse practitioner is essential. A Surgical Nurse Practitioner qualification at PgDip/MSc level is desirable.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We work in a friendly team orientated environment with good facilities and have good working relationships with multidisciplinary team members. Working hours will be 37.5 per week, between Monday to Friday with no weekends, bank holidays or night duty. These hours may be reviewed depending on service needs, including compacted hours.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse (part 1, 8, 12 or 15 of register depending on area of practice)
- Demonstrable post graduate level working.
Desirable criteria
- Completed or completing Masters level (HEI level 7) qualification
- Teaching / Assessment / Mentoring qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- High level clinical skills and knowledge within the specialty
- Minimum 2-year previous experience undertaking surgery as a Surgical Nurse Practitioner
- Ability to work as part of a multi-professional team
- Evidence to demonstrate a structured approach to continuing professional development.
Desirable criteria
- Experience and proficient skills in performing dermatological procedures
Communication

- Excellent communication skills including verbal, non-verbal and written.
Flexibility
Desirable criteria
- The ability to stay late on a case-by-case basis if necessary.
- Work long days to ensure caseload targets are achieved.
