Deputy Directorate Manager – Trauma & Orthopaedics Directorate 

Band 8a - Substantive 

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced operational manager to work in Trauma & Orthopaedics .  The focus of this role will be on Trauma and the successful candidate will be based at the John Radcliffe Trauma Unit with one day a week at the Horton hospital .

 A wider portfolio of service(s) to lead on will be agreed with the successful candidate. 

The post holder will have experience of delivering against operational performance targets and will have strong communication, engagement skills and a good level of IT literacy.

We are seeking a proactive individual with excellent leadership skills who has the aptitude to facilitate and effect change. You will contribute to the development of services in the Directorate.

The Deputy Directorate Manager will support the Directorate Manager who in conjunction with the Clinical Director and with support of the Matron are responsible the operational management of services.  The post holder will be expected to work across organisational boundaries to make a positive contribution to the Trusts corporate objectives and contribute to shaping the future healthcare across the local economy.

The post holder will provide senior leadership  for Trauma Teams alongside other identified services,  supporting the Directorate to maintain financial balance, the development and implementation of service improvements and engaging with teams to ensure best quality care is provided.

The post holder will also be responsible for leading and delivering success across a number of key programmes within Directorate and the wider Division. These programmes will be vital in ensuring the Division can deliver its primary objectives and targets over the coming years and will encompass a wide range of topic, including productivity and efficiency, quality, workforce and clinical effectiveness

The Deputy Directorate Manager for Trauma & Orthopaedics will support the Directorate Manager who in conjunction with the Clinical Director and with the support of the Matron(s) are responsible for the operational management of services.   The post-holder will be expected to work across organisational boundaries to make a positive contribution to the Trusts corporate objectives and contribute to shaping the future healthcare across the local economy.

In conjunction with the Directorate Manager and Clinical Director. Specifically responsible for delivery of the Trauma pathways, supporting the Directorate to maintain financial balance, the development and implementation of service improvements and engaging with teams to ensure best quality care is provided. The post holder will also support the DM during leave across Trauma & Orthopaedics as required.

  • Develop annual business plans alongside the DM for Trauma & Orthopaedics  in the context of the Divisional and Trust strategy; collaborating with key services; and ensuring relevance to current stakeholder policies (e.g., NHS England Long Term Plan).
  • Take lead responsibility of the delivery of key performance indicators. This includes preparing regular reports for Trauma to enable accurate forecasting of performance against key financial, service and quality targets and standards.
  • Ensure the delegated services deliver on the range of national and locally defined targets and that patients can access the services delivered across the Trust in a timely way.
  • Support the Clinical Director(s) leadership team to determine the strategic direction for the Trauma  services, identifying future resourcing requirements and ensuring that all areas meet contractual and other operational requirements.
  • Working as part of a team to provide high level leadership, efficient and effective day-to-day running of Trauma.

  • Experience of analysing and interpreting information to identify and manage variances in performance and identifying solutions to deliver improvement.
  • Experience of business planning techniques and managing business processes

Knowledge
