Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Senior Clinical Educator for Cardiology Ward/ACCU

Based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, the Senior Clinical Educator will provide leadership and development for the clinical educators on the Cardiology Ward/ACCU. They will represent practice development and education on behalf of the clinical area.

A highly experienced practitioner with specialist knowledge, the post holder will be active in supporting and furthering quality and governance  structures. They will also be engaged with audit, service improvement and research.

The role includes collating the yearly training needs within Cardiac Medicine and allocating funding.

Coordination of learner placements in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

·                Act as an exemplary role model for best clinical practice and Trust values

·                Work to an agreed job plan to maximise education delivery to support staff and patient safety/experience.

·                Supervise and manage clinical educators to promote effective working across the education team. 

·                Use expert knowledge to actively promote and contribute to a positive inter-professional learning environment

·                Deliver education programmes at a divisional level and where required cross divisionally in support of organisational priorities.

·                Work as part of the local and corporate practice development teams

·                Manage and lead the Cardiology clinical education team

·                Develop, implement, and evaluate education programmes

·                Work as part of the local and corporate practice development teams

·                Work with clinical management to anticipate and address the educational needs of the service

·                Work across boundaries to proactively develop and sustain partnerships

·                Identify and support audit, service improvement and research projects

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Senior Clinical Educator will provide management and development support to junior educators. in the Cardiology Ward/ACCU setting.  Through the design and implementation of education the practice development practitioner will contribute to interprofessional learning and clinical excellence.  In order to deliver education that meets service needs and priorities the practice development practitioner will work collaboratively with clinical managers, the corporate education team, and external partners.

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of specialist knowledge of Cardiac Medicine
  • Having or working towards a post-graduate certificate in teaching
  • Evidence of experience & qualifications in supervising & assessing learners
  • Health related recognised degree relevant to post
  • Evidence of study at Level 7
  • Familiar with and able to effectively use common office software
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • National publication or presentation of audit, service improvement or research

  • Able to work under own initiative within boundaries of role and identify when to appropriately escalate/seek assistance
  • Articulate and knowledgeable regarding skills needed to deliver a high standard of care in the area of practice
  • Has and continues to measurably contribute to the education of learners and non-registered and less experienced staff
  • Able to analyse the practice of self and others and generate structured, objective recommendations for improvement

Leadership & Management

  • Able to supervise non-registered and registered colleagues to ensure effective care delivery

  • Demonstrates ability to maintain and contribute to the development of standards of practice, conduct or decision making in conjunction with team leaders/ward manager/unit co-ordinator
