We have an exciting opportunity to join the Sherwood Forest Hospitals Communications team as a Communications Officer on a fixed-term basis for 18 months.

This role is perfect for a confident all-rounder with an interest in improving the Trust’s internal communications. The role will involve:

·       Improving how we communicate with a range of clinical and non-clinical colleagues

·       Sharing the range of wellbeing support available to Trust colleagues in creative new ways

·       Supporting the delivery of the Trust’s annual Excellence Awards to recognise colleagues for their exceptional efforts

·       Supporting the development and delivery of hard-hitting internal communications campaigns to help the Trust to deliver its new five-year Improving Lives strategy

·       Hosting regular ‘Town Hall’ events with Trust colleagues to give them the opportunity to put their questions to the Trust’s most senior leaders

·       Supporting with managing its growing Trust’s social media channels

If you have got strong communications skills, you are organised, can work at pace and you have a passion for making a difference, we want to hear from you. Previous communications or marketing knowledge, experience and training would be beneficial but is not essential.

Main duties of the job

We’ve a dedicated communications function and we're after someone who is happy writing content for patient emails, web & socials, as well as cyber and critical incidents, as much as they are for crafting project launch and staff notifications.

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the role and challenges of communications, PR and marketing in the NHS
  • Computer literate and able to use software packages (preferably Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to work on own initiative, prioritising workloads and managing time effectively
  • Confident, flexible and methodical approach to work, exercising tact, discretion and diplomacy
  • Previous experience of working within a communications or newsroom environment
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working within a similar role/nature
  • Experience of graphic design, social media or video production

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • A good level of general education to A level standard (to include English and Maths) or equivalent level of experience
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communications and organisational skills
  • Ability to work with all professions throughout the Trust and with colleagues in partner organisations involved in the management or provision of health and social care services
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant degree level qualification or experience
  • A recognised communications qualification

Training

Essential criteria
  • Marketing, Communications, PR would be an advantage
Desirable criteria
  • Prepared to undertake any further course of study

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in communications, PR, journalism or marketing
  • Ability to prioritise and plan own workload in order to meet tight deadlines/targets
  • To be able to maintain all of the above under pressure and with tight deadlines, not just set by the Trust but also by others as appropriate
Desirable criteria
  • Proven skills in team working
  • Experience of coordinating events
  • Experience of working with the media
