Job overview

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Orthotist to join our in-house Orthotic team at Sherwood Forest Hospitals.

The Trust provides an Orthotic service to Mid and North Nottinghamshire through its base at King’s Mill Hospital. Out-patient clinics and In-patient cover are also provided at Mansfield Community Hospital, Newark Hospital and specialised outreach clinics.

This is a great opportunity to work as an NHS Orthotist within a fully integrated service.  We also have our own purpose-built in-house manufacturing workshop and a well-established team.  We strive to provide an excellent quality Orthotic service to our local population.

We are a very friendly team, working in a supportive and welcoming environment.  We have excellent training and development opportunities including preceptorship for all new starters, protected CPD time and good staff facilities.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties include;

  • Accept referrals from healthcare professionals and undertake clinical assessment and examination of patients to provide suitable specialist orthotic clinical-technical prescriptions.
  • Use measurement and data acquisition techniques in recording all pertinent information to ensure the accuracy of patient prescriptions.
  • Specify the design, componentry, materials, fabrication method and suppliers of orthoses and order individual items to meet the patient’s clinical needs.
  • Perform risk assessments in the selection of components for customised devices to ensure patient safety.
  • Evaluate the completed device on the patient to ensure the desired quality of body-device interface, functional alignment, comfort, cosmetic appearance and mechanical integrity and safety.
  • Refer patients to other disciplines to ensure appropriate care.
  • Give clinical and professional advice to the multi-disciplinary team regarding appropriate orthotic provision for patients.
  • Advise and maintain effective liaison with technical support personnel including assistance with training to ensure best current technical practice in meeting patients’ needs.
