Job overview

The role of the SLT is to  provide a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy service to people with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs as part of a multi-disciplinary team; the Liaison & Diversion Service. This role sits within the Community Forensic Care Group. You will be working with adults and young people who are navigating the Criminal Justice System. These individuals may have/experience Mental Health difficulties, Personality Disorder, Neurodiversity diagnoses & Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities with co-occurring Speech, Language and Communication Needs.

The role requires a high level of clinical and professional expertise in order that the population can benefit from a well-coordinated pro-active, specialist, efficient and effective SLT. The role remit includes individual assessment, diagnosis, therapy and management, training, advice & liaison.

Main duties of the job

  • To be autonomous and responsible for the assessment, formulation and management of a specialist clinical caseload ensuring practice is in line the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist’s Position Paper and Quality Guidelines.
  • To coordinate access to speech and language therapy 
  • To develop and implement the 5 Good Communication standards
  • To represent the Speech and Language Therapy service at agreed forums as required.
  • To work as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team across a variety of agencies and locations in order to maximise communication opportunities for patients
  • To be responsible for the mentoring, supervision and management of junior speech and language therapists, assistant speech and language therapists and students as required

Qualifications, Training, Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Recognised SLT Degree/diploma
  • Portfolio of relevant post qualification CPD
  • Working experience of assessing and managing a complex caseload
  • Experience of effective multi-disciplinary/agency working
  • Experience of designing and delivering different learning and development opportunities
  • Experience of delivering environmental approaches
  • Experience in developing evaluation/audit tools
  • Highly specialist applied knowledge of working with adults with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Knowledge of Speech Language Communication tools, assessments and interventions relating to the client group.
  • Knowledge of National Policy and guidance and impact on local practice.
  • RCSLT Registered HCPC Registered
