We currently have an opportunity available to join our Estates Team as a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Craftworker (Builder/Joiner) providing a full range of maintenance services across Trust sites. You will undertake a broad range of joinery maintenance, repair and installation work using hand, power and machine tools as appropriate. The role offers a significant opportunity to contribute to the smooth functioning and maintenance of a range of engineering and building services in the Trust's clinical and non-clinical facilities.

This role is critical to the Estates Department's maintenance support service and is demanding and varied as it covers a range of services. Please note this post does not meet skill level required for a Skilled worker visa. Main duties of the job

Operating as a mobile Multi-Skilled Maintenance Craftworker (Building/Joiner), you will receive your work on a handheld device from the Estates and Facilities Helpdesk and Team Leader. You will be expected to prioritise your daily workload ensuring you complete the tasks in the given priority. The role will predominately include undertaking statutory and non-statutory planned preventative maintenance (with correct training).

 You will undertake multi-skilled works to all Trust properties including working at heights and in adverse weather conditions, within your own competencies. You will be expected to demonstrate all aspects of the joinery discipline together with a flexible and conscientious approach to working. The successful candidate will be based at Duncan Macmillan House but must be willing to work at any of the Trust's sites.

You will be required to interpret work from drawings, instructions and specifications; diagnose faults and carry out necessary repair work. It is essential you have an understanding of other craftsmen’s work in relation to their own discipline to provide a consistent service when carrying out both maintenance and minor work schemes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Other duties will include:

  • Cutting and shaping timber for floorboards, fire doors, skirting boards and window frames
  • fitting cupboards and shelving, as well as door handles and locks
  • repairing damage around the hospital buildings
  • apply varnish or polishes to work surfaces, cabinets and other new works as required
  • set out and install false ceilings. Make repairs to false ceilings
  • glazing repairs to timber, metal and PVCU windows and doors
  • fit safety and privacy films to glazing
  • obtain entry to locked rooms and make good as required
  • install and repair locks
  • cut keys of all types

The ideal candidate:

  • Time served apprenticeship or other equivalent approved training
  • city and guilds certificate in Carpentry and Joinery or other equivalent approved qualifications
  • certified training in use of woodworking machinery (training will be provided)
  • post apprenticeship experience in a building maintenance environment
  • a high degree of self-motivation is essential as the majority of tasks will be undertaken without direct supervision
  • good informal communication skills

  • City and Guilds or equivalent advanced craft certificate in appropriate discipline
