Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Ward Receptionist to join a diverse and motivated team that are dedicated to the development of skills and the delivery of high quality safe care.  The post is on the Specialist Receiving Unit at the City Hospital, we are a 23 bedded emergency admissions unit for 4 specialities within the CAS division.

As the Ward Receptionist, you will often be the first point of contact for patients and visitors when entering the unit so a friendly, welcoming smile and excellent communication skills are essential.

Main duties of the job

Tasks will include but not be limited to fulfilling all necessary reception, clerical, administrative and general tasks required to facilitate and record patient information using technology systems.  Staff are expected to be courteous and considerate at all times and have excellent customer care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Basic computer skills will be needed and an understanding of Microsoft word and excel.  Basic typing skills is a necessity preferably at RSA level 2.  NUH programmes such as Care flow, Patient Transport and Notis would be an advantage.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Secondary School standard of education in basic numeracy and literacy.
  • Evidence of personal development in previous employment.
Desirable criteria
  • Competent at using Care Flow System, Nerve centre and Notis.
  • Nationally recognised qualification in basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant work experience at least 1 Year
Desirable criteria
  • Previous Employment within a Health field or working within a team.
  • Clerical experience.

Communication and Relationship Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to produce short accurate written messages and effectively communicate with patient, visitors and all levels of staff in a clear articulate way.
  • Good Telephone manner.
  • Friendly and approachable.
  • Trustworthiness and able to maintain strict confidentiality (data protection)

Analytical and Judgment Skills

Essential criteria
  • Judgement of when to refer issues to relevant senior staff.
  • Good time management and organisational skills.

Planning and Organisation Skills

Essential criteria
  • Follow instructions accurately.
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Calm and well organised
  • Flexible
  • Ability to manage own workload but assist any memebr of staff where needed
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to work in an, at times, noisy and demanding envrionment.

Physical Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to life and manoeuvre smalls loads
  • Motivated, enthusiastic and energetic
