We are seeking a Consultant Radiologist with special interests in nuclear medicine (including PET/CT) and genito-urinary (GU) radiology at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to support ongoing expansion. There is also a commitment to general and emergency body imaging in the Trust.

Services are delivered at Queen’s Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital.  Emergency medicine is located at Queen’s Medical Centre and the majority of out of hours imaging occurs here. Urology is based principally at Nottingham City Hospital and there is Obstetrical and Gynaecological imaging at both sites.  Nuclear Medicine imaging takes place at both locations with the PET/CT centre located at Nottingham City Hospital. The post-holder may be asked to work at either or both hospitals but will have a habitual base in one hospital and cross site travel during the day will be avoided where possible.

A full range of emergency and elective patients are admitted to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and the appointee will be responsible for the imaging procedures of those patients.

The appointee will join the existing team of radiologists within the radiology and nuclear medicine departments and will support the growth in demand for imaging services. With their consultant colleagues they will provide a comprehensive service within their areas of expertise and reciprocal cover for periods of leave.

The persons appointed will be required to contribute to the services at Queen’s Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital sites.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in multidisciplinary meetings (MDT), teaching, research, audit and continuing professional development.

The job plan reflects our best assessment of what the final content will be, based on 10 PAs.  For the first year there are 8 sessions of Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 2 sessions of supporting professional activities (SPA). On completion of one years’ service this reverts to an 8.5 DCC/1.5 SPA ratio unless additional SPA roles are agreed in job planning. There are frequently educational, governance and management roles available for those interested.

The timetable will be flexible to provide cross cover of essential services.

DUTIES

The appointee will be expected to fulfil the following duties with the agreed job plan.

Clinical

A full range of emergency and elective patients are admitted to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and the appointee will be responsible for the management of those NM patients admitted under their care.

Teaching

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust are centers for undergraduate and postgraduate education and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to play a full role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Research, Governance and Audit

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has extremely close links with the University and has academic departments in the majority of its clinical specialties. There is active collaborative research between NHS and academic staff and NHS Consultants. The successful candidate would be expected to participate fully in these areas.

Other Duties as Agreed

The appointee may wish to take on other roles alongside their clinical role.  Any positions offered by bodies outside the Trust, (e.g. Training Programme Director, Regional College Advisor, Royal College Representative etc.) must be discussed and agreed by the Head of Service in advance of the position being accepted, so that the impact upon the specialty can be fully considered and any job plan amendments undertaken should the additional role be accepted.

Clinical Skills/Experience

  • Evidence of technical skills as described in the job description
  • Documented evidence of experience in performing and reporting NM and PET-CT studies
  • Experience in uroradiological imaging.

  • Wide experience of molecular radionuclide therapy
