Nottingham Children's Hospital and Neonatal services are pleased to announce our recruitment open day which is taking place on 8th March 2025.
We invite final year Children’s Nursing students and Registered Children's Nurses with experience to our market place event. After a welcome from one of our senior nurses you can browse the stalls, meet our teams and find out more about the opportunities available in Nottingham.
*Pre-Pin Nurses must be qualified by Autumn 2025 to be eligible to apply.*
We have opportunities in rotational posts, and for specific wards/departments including but not limited to;
Children's Assessment Unit - A fast paced medical area, where you will gain a wealth of knowledge and skills in patient assessment.
Ward E17 - Children's Renal Ward D34 and D35 - Across our surgical pathway you will be able to enhance skills in caring for patients covering a multitude of specialist surgery's including; cleft lip and palate, spinal, ENT, orthopaedic and gastrointestinal.
Paediatric Critical Care Units - where you will have the opportunity to enrol on the structured foundation programme.
Ward E39 - Children's Oncology Ward
E40 - Children's Neurology and Spinal
Ward D33 - General Medical
We also have day case areas such as Oncology Daycare. If you are looking for an area to enhance your skills with a more regular working pattern, this Unit has a great balance of long days 8-8pm but no nights. Some weekend working maybe required.

As a registered nurse at Nottingham Children's Hospital, you will be expected to maintain a high standard of clinical work when carrying out nursing procedures.
You will motivate colleagues, champion children’s and families safety and dignity, and drive continuous improvement.
Nottingham Children's Hospital will support you in your role and provide the relevant education, training and support for you to deliver high quality care.
To be considered you must be willing to undertake further children's specific training and development packages.

Nottingham Children’s Hospital is set within the vibrant city of Nottingham known for its many historical sites and lively music scene. The Children’s Hospital is housed within the Queens Medical Centre campus and has 116 inpatient beds across 8 inpatient wards covering all specialities, with many of our specialities being regional centres as well as two neonatal intensive care units- one based at our City Hospital campus.
We have an innovative Preceptorship programme to support newly qualified staff during their crucial transition period from student nurse to registered nurse, as well as bespoke support for those joining our teams.

We have a very well established rotation and preceptorship programme supported by dedicated preceptorship development nurses. Our rotation posts offer opportunity to experience the whole of the children’s hospital including neonates, children’s emergency department, PCCU and all of our specialist wards and departments. It is important to us that our rotation is flexible to meet individual needs with some staff choosing to complete three six month rotations, two nine month rotations or an even more bespoke option.
As well as our rotation posts we also have the option for you to choose a specific ward or department to work in with the option of using our transfer window system to move at a later date, and for those newly qualified nurses who are passionate about having a career in paediatric intensive care nursing, we have our critical care foundation programme.
We are also happy to accept applications from experienced adult registered nurses that have experience in paediatric settings.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Current level one NMC registration/Pre-pin due to qualify.
Desirable criteria
- Posession of mentor course or willingness to complete
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of delivering nursing care to a group of patients
- Supervision of non registered staff and students

- Demonstarte evidence of a link role or involvement of project work
Communication skills

- Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills
