Job overview
NUH NHS Trust is looking to appoint two Specialist Neurosurgeons, interested in spinal and functional Neurosurgery. This is an exceptional opportunity to join an award-winning team focusing on innovation, research, high-quality care and outcomes.
This is a full-time 10PA post.
The unit will support successful candidates in obtaining specialist registration through CESR if they are eligible.
The successful candidates will be responsible for providing specified services within their defined skills. They will join the consultant team in delivering the above neurosurgery services and will take the lead on the VIRTUAL ward programme.
The Trust has the arrangements to ensure that all surgeons have an annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and support surgeons going through the revalidation process. Furthermore, the department would support the specialist in identifying an appropriate mentor.
Main duties of the job
- Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients
- Lead for VIRTUAL ward
- Support spinal and functional neurosurgery services in the department. Once a week Elective theatre list and clinic
- Teaching and training of junior staff.
- To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
- To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).

Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise at time of appointment
- MBBS
- MRCS/FRCS (UK)
Desirable criteria
- Intercollegiate Fellowship Examination in Neurosurgery
Experience
Essential criteria
- Must have 12 years minimum post graduate experience, at least six of which must be in (specialty).
- Able to clinically evaluate and manage a patient, independently formulating a prioritised differential diagnosis, initiating an appropriate management plan, reviewing and adjusting as required depending on the outcomes of treatment.
- Able to manage complexity and uncertainty in the care of patients as a senior autonomous practitioner, making decisions and employing significant clinical expertise as required.
Desirable criteria
- Technical competency in DBS, SCS, ITB Non specialised neurosurgical spine Neurosurgical Trauma
Communication and relationship skills
Essential criteria
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English for IMGs demonstrated by minimum level B in all elements of the Occupational English test or overall 7 in the IELTS test with no individual elements scoring below 7
- Seeks feedback and involvement from individuals, families,carers, colleagues and communities in safety / quality improvement work.
