Consultant Diagnostic Neuroradiologist
NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
Job overview
We are seeking to appoint one permanent Consultant Neuroradiologist with interest in Paediatric Neuroradiology at Nottingham University Hospitals. This post is to support the increasing local and regional demand for Neuroimaging during this time.
The successful applicants will share responsibility with 14 other colleagues for the provision of all aspects of Neuro imaging in our Trust with possible future expansion to the Trusts within the regional network.
Main duties of the job
This is a substantive Full-time Consultant Neuroradiologist post for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust with regional Paediatric Neuroradiology reporting for few local hospitals.
This post will meet the needs of the expanding service within NUH Neuroradiology and the surrounding trusts and help provide a specialist neuroradiology on call service at NUH and with weekend working.
The post holder may be required to contribute to some activity for the surrounding district general hospitals. NUH Paediatric Neuroradiologists currently report children’s neuroimaging from three surrounding trusts. This cross cover of activity for the region will be in conjunction with other colleagues and there is scope for change of the exact proportion of time allocated to NUH: DGH cover neuroimaging activities in the future
Working for our organisation
We have an important contribution to make to life in Nottingham and the wider region and we take this responsibility seriously. With 15,000 staff, we are one of the biggest employers in the city with a central role in supporting the health and wellbeing of our local population. We play a leading role in research, education and innovation. We have a budget of just under £1billion, 90 wards and 1,700 beds across three main sites: QMC, City Hospital and Ropewalk House. We deliver district general services to 2.5m residents of Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and its surrounding communities. Our specialist services allows us to deliver care to 4.5m people from across the East Midlands and nationally for a handful of services.
We have a reputation for a nationally regarded neurosciences service and have a long history with MRI in conjunction with the Sir Peter Mansfield unit. Nottingham is a Tessa Jowell Centre of Excellence for Neuro oncology. There is a children’s hospital onsite and intraoperative MRI. We play a vital role in the education and training of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
The post will be primarily based at QMC campus but we do support our regional partners with Neuro imaging and it may be necessary to travel to peripheral hospitals on occasion.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Candidates must hold the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists or an equivalent qualification and must either be on the Specialist Register, or in possession of a CCT at the time of taking up the appointment. However the department is delighted to entertain expressions of interest from individuals who will be within 6 months of attaining CCT at the time of interview (anticipated in March 2025).
The post will be primarily located at the Queen’s Medical Centre campus although the successful applicant will be required to provide sessions at the sites where we provide a Neuro Radiology service.
