A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a small group of enthusiastic and motivated band 4 Nurse Associate’s to join the Neonatal team at Nottingham University Hospital.

This is an exciting time to join the Neonatal team with the planned Neonatal and Midwifery expansion which will create a new and vibrant unit, this will see our current cot capacity expand.

The post holders will be joining a well-integrated and established multi-disciplinary team providing tertiary level neonatal care, over two hospital sites Queens Medical Centre and City Hospital Nottingham.  You will be part of the Nursing rotation and rota between our two units.

Your role would be to support the registered nurse in the contribution to on-going assessment, treatment and care planning for patients. To adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Conduct for Nurses, Midwives and Nursing Associates and work within their scope of practice following the professional standards of practice and behaviours for nurses, midwives and nursing associates and the standards of proficiency.

Both of our Neonatal units are involved in teaching and clinical research with strong links with the University of Nottingham, and Nottingham Trent university. We are also the lead Neonatal Unit for the North Hub of the East Midlands Neonatal Operational Delivery Network which allows us to link with other Neonatal Units in the East Midlands such as Derby, Mansfield, Lincoln and Boston. Working closely with these units allows all babies in the network to receive the care they require and, should the need arise; they can be transferred between hospitals.

The Nursing Associate has a breadth of knowledge across the lifespan and the four fields of nursing, providing holistic and person centred care and support for people of all ages and in a variety of settings. The Nursing Associate works independently under the supervision of Registered Nurses, working within the sphere of nursing and care and within all aspects of the nursing process.
Nursing Associates are equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours relevant to employment as a Nursing Associate. Nursing Associates will adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Conduct for Nurses, Midwives and Nursing Associates and work within their scope of practice following the professional standards of practice and behaviours for nurses, midwives and nursing associates and the standards of proficiency for nursing Associates.
The Nursing Associate will contribute to the health and wellbeing of our patients and service users and this can apply across all healthcare settings. Integral to this role is the ability to communicate effectively, with sensitivity and compassion and to manage relationships with people, making reasonable adjustments where necessary.

Training and Qualifications

Experience

Physical skills

  • Dexterity and accuracy in undertaking clinical skills, use of equipment and documentation
  • Competent and capable of using medical equipment
  • Able to undertake patient manual handling manoeuvres and non-patient manual handling manoeuvres

Communication and relationship skills

  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate basic IT skills recognition of own level of competence and limitations and able to communicate these to appropriate staff

  • Ability to identify own learning needs
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the nursing associate role; Understands and acts in line with the NMC professional standards for practice contained within the code; Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice;
  • Ability to participate in reflective practice and understand the requirements for NMC Revalidation;
  • Understands the importance of following procedures and treatment plans
