Transformation Midwife – Safer Practice

Job overview

The post holder will provide direct support to the Maternity Services in coordinating, implementing, delivering and providing assurance against national and local standards including the Care Quality Commission’s 5 core domains and standards, Ockenden reports and NHSR Maternity Incentive Scheme with a specific focus on driving improvements related to clinical practice.

The post holder will be expected to provide a strong clinical presence, working clinically with all teams through the maternity pathway.  Through project delivery they will lead in key areas of quality and assurance, including ensuring clinical accuracy of guidelines, patient information leaflets, audits, quality improvement projects, as well as supporting and monitoring the implementation of actions from audits and quality improvement (QI) projects. They will be able to provide highly competent professional advice on the protection of patients, staff, and visitors to ensure patient safety and improvement continues to be a priority and to work alongside relevant staff to deliver a programme of improvement work.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required, through the use of quality improvement methodology to drive and embed improvement projects within the programme by actively participating in project planning, engagement and delivery. 

To work directly in all areas of the maternity service as a clinically experienced and credible midwife.

To apply information from both local and national reports to ensure projects delivered remain aligned with local and national best practice guidance.

Support the embedding of a culture of continuous quality improvement and assurance across all services. 

To line manage and work with the band 6 transformation midwife 

Work in collaboration with guideline / audit lead in the development, implementation and monitoring of compliance with clinical guidelines within maternity services to improve patient safety

Receive and communicate complex information related to guidelines, audits and standards which will require good concentration skills to review and analyse data

Direct, deliver and evaluate the provision of educational activities to support engagement of existing initiatives and disseminating good practice.

Be responsible for the management and delivery of projects, contributing to presentations, papers and meetings for wider dissemination of the work.

Work collaboratively to embed actions across maternity services and engage clinical teams with the delivery of continuous improvement.

Receive and communicate complex information related to guidelines, audits and standards which will require good concentration skills to review and analyse data.

Ensure Implementation of actions from audits, QI projects, incidents and perinatal mortality reviews and to monitor progress against standards.

Engagement and involvement with the Maternity and Neonatal Safety Improvement Programme (MatNeoSIP).

To work collaboratively with the Trust’s Patient Experience team and patient experience midwife, monitoring that services user’s feedback remain central to quality agenda.

To be responsible for the preparation, delivery and performance monitoring of action plans, relating to internal and external reviews, information and documentation, ensuring it is kept up to date and available for review or accreditation as required.

Co-ordinate the dissemination of local learning feedback and other material to staff.

Develop an approach by which learning from local events, Confidential Enquiries, NICE Guidance, and other national recommendations are disseminated.

Direct, deliver and evaluate the provision of educational activities to support existing initiatives and disseminating good practice including local induction and junior doctor’s training.

To undertake other duties that are commensurate with the grade of the post, including management of projects, contributing to presentations, papers and meetings for wider dissemination of the work.

Work collaboratively to embed actions across maternity services.

 

 

Person specification

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife with UK registration.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of specialist areas, e.g. : CQC standards and regulatory requirements & NHSR Maternity Incentive Scheme for maternity services.
  • Ability to evaluate effectiveness of interventions and approaches
  • IT Literate (MS WP/Excel &PowerPoint).

Communication and Relationship Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of excellent communication skills including verbal, non-verbal and written (report writing and presentation).
  • Positive attitude to change with a proven ability to assist in the implementation of change and practice development.

Analytical and Judgement Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to interpret highly complex facts or situations from a number of qualitative and quantitative data sources, bring the data together, analyse the information, generate a range of options and recommendations from the result.
  • Ability to analyse data and produce required reports and information.
