Job overview

Maternity and Neonatal services are looking for a highly motivated applicant who is confident working in a highly adaptive environment and is comfortable as a lone worker.

The work will be primarily to support the role out of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) in Maternity and Neonatal Services.. Having an understanding of, or experience of behaviour change is essential to the role.

Additionally, you may be working with OD and QRS colleagues to support people with the behavioural elements (communication and teamwork) of reported events contributing to an improvement in workplace culture.

Job overview

The Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) sets out the NHS’s approach to developing and maintaining effective systems and processes for responding to patient safety incidents for the purpose of learning and improving patient safety.

This a temporary role (1 year) that will work with the Maternity QRS and OD team to support the wider team in developing and maintaining an effective patient safety incident response system that integrates four key aims*:

•             Compassionate engagement and involvement of those affected by patient safety incidents

•             Application of a range of system-based approached to learning from patient safety incidents

•             Considered and proportionate responses to patient safety incidents

•             Supportive oversight focused on strengthening response system functioning and improvement

Main duties of the job

Working with QRS and Organisational Development colleagues -  your primary role is the design and delivery of high quality interventions that support people with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to adopt the PSIRF framework in order to achieve the 4 aims of PSIRF*.  You will support and lead project work, and be involved in the design, delivery and evaluation of OD interventions across Maternity and Neonatal Services.

In addition, you will work with the QRS team and the OD Consultant to review reports of events that have influenced the culture, for example kind and civil behaviours.  You will support individuals and teams with interventions that respond to the factors highlighted.

You will be comfortable working at a fast pace to meet deadlines, often dealing with ambiguity whilst maintaining high standards and acting as an ambassador for the department.

Whilst your workload will vary over time, we anticipate it will be split approximately as follows:

•             PSIRF Project Work (designing and planning the activities): 30%

•             Development design and delivery aimed at delivering the 4 aims of PSIRF e.g Workshops, 1-2-1’s, Coaching and Mentoring: 50%

•             Other development design and delivery in response to incidents and events 20%

The above is for guidance only and is likely to be highly flexible.
