Are you looking for a new challenge within Clinical Haematology

Do you have experience in Haematology? Would you like to join an established team of Clinical Nurse Specialists?  The Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) CNS Service have been established since 1995.  Since then the team have managed the transplant process and associated patient care from referral at diagnosis. This includes the practicalities of sourcing the cells, organising conditioning, patient follow up post-transplant, the management of short and long term complications, such as viral reactivations and chronic issues such as graft versus host disease.  Acting as an advocate for the patient, the CNS ensures good patient experience and outcomes.  The CNS' are responsible for attending relevant MDT meetings, identifying and implementing service improvements and efficiencies and making challenging decisions.

The BMT nursing service provides a range of services including:

>In conjunction with the consultants and external registries plan, co-ordinate and schedule all identified transplants.

>Undertake/co-ordinate sibling tissue typing, donor counselling and arranging subsequent medical reviews and eventual stem cell collection.

>Attend pre-transplant consultant led clinic to counsel new patient referrals and discuss/plan arrangements going forward.

>Assess and meet the complex information needs of patients who require transplant, from initial discussion to treatment and follow up.

The Department of Clinical Haematology is based within Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The Hospital is the fourth largest trust in the country with Magnet accreditation. The Unit comprises of a JACIE accredited bone marrow transplant unit, support ward for chemotherapy administration, day case and outpatient facilities.

You will be working within an existing small team acting as the key worker for patients assessing their needs, including eHNAs, providing support and referrals to appropriate services.

You will work closely with members of the multidisciplinary team and assist in the co-ordination of the care pathway for our patients. Providing psychosocial care and assessing symptoms.

  • 1st Level registered Nurse with current registration with NMC
  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing or Health related Studies or equivalent experience
  • Relevant post-reg study relevant to specialist pathway / willingness to undertake at diploma / degree level
  • Teaching and assessing qualification / have completed teaching and assessing supervisor training.
  • Completion of all local competency packages or has undertaken WINW packages essential to role and specialty
  • Significant post registration experience, in appropriate clinical setting
  • Can demonstrate professional autonomy and effective decision making skills when managing caseload, seeking support when appropriate

Experience
