Early Pregnancy Bereavement Nurse

Job overview

Gynaecology is unique to other specialities as it encompasses early pregnancy care, emergency care, fertility care, surgical care, medical care and oncology care. NUH gynaecology provides a tertiary service for a number of subspecialties and there is also a large community gynaecology service. 

Gynaecology sits within the Reproductive Health Directorate as part of the Family Health Division.

The Early Pregnancy Bereavement nurse will assist with providing caring, compassionate, and individualised care to bereaved families who have experienced miscarriage, or medical termination of pregnancy in pregnancy of up to 20 weeks. They will be an advocate for women and their families.

 

 

Main duties of the job

The Early Pregnancy Bereavement nurse will provide evidence-based information and support to women and their families in line with Nottingham University Hospital’s policies, the NMC Code and current public health guidance. Through effective clinical leadership and role modelling, to inspire, motivate and empower others.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Current NMC registration
  • Practice supervisor/ Assessor (SSSA) Mentorship
Desirable criteria
  • First Degree in relevant subject
  • Bereavement Training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent or current experience within the specialty.
  • Demonstrate and ability to deliver clinical care in the speciality
  • Ability to convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to patients, relative/carers and staff.
  • Evidence of teaching in a practice or classroom setting
Desirable criteria
  • Bereavement support and palliative care involvement in clinical practice.

Communication Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Produce timely, accurate written/electronic records and documents.
  • Demonstrate basic IT skills including use of Microsoft packages such as Word, powerpoint and Excel.
  • Can minimise interpersonal conflict and barriers to communication.
  • Demonstration of team working and ability to work within a team and able to work effectively alone.
