An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Day Technician at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to join our busy Estates & Facilities Management Team. The day technician is employed to work across both engineering disciplines. They will have been trained wider than their core skill and acquired elements of both Electrical and Mechanical skills and have reached a level of flexibility and competence which enables them to achieve and apply the ability where required to perform across numerous duties, these will include general maintenance and installation on the complex systems that form part of the infrastructure to the site.
Main duties of the job
Test, diagnose and repair faults on engineering and/or electrical and plumbing installations, plant and equipment, to deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others.
Have a large understanding of domestic hot water, mains cold water, plumbing, high temperature hot water heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and steam heating systems to enable diagnostic work and repairs to be completed.
Maintain and repair types of pumps, circulation systems, belt drives, pulleys and direct drive systems.
Work alongside the in house maintenance team along with working with their own initiative with minimum supervision.

The Nottingham University Hospitals Trust is a large acute hospital spread across 3 sites in the City delivering excellent care to the local residents. The in house maintenance team is made of a workforce comprising of 60 tradesmen from different disciplines providing on-site service 24 7 to the Trust ensuring that patient care is delivered safely and without interruption. The current team is well experienced with a large amount of knowledge that strive to provide the best standards of service, this in turn has created a good sense of team work with patient care being at the core of our working principles. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Test, diagnose and repair faults on engineering and/or electrical and plumbing installations, plant and equipment, to deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others.
Understand the working of mechanical and/or electrical and plumbing systems within NHS buildings.
Instruct others on the above features and other aspects of his/her work.
Perform a wide range of work of other crafts.
Manufacture, assemble, erect and install new work.
Carry out repairs, maintain and efficiently run plant and equipment.
Use all relevant tools and equipment.
To participate in/learn new procedures, new technology, in order to improve methods of works so increasing Department efficiency and utilisation.
Perform PPM maintenance on these systems along with any other duties delegated to them by the Team Leaders that are within their capabilities

Knowledge & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Recognised and registered EITB, City & Guilds qualification or other approved training.
Desirable criteria
- BTEC ONC or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post qualification experience in a similar specialist role in a commercial or industrial building services engineering environment.
Desirable criteria
- Working in an acute healthcare environment.
Planning & Organisational Skil
Essential criteria
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and good management skills of lower grade staff.
- Plans and organises maintenance activities, situations and major interruptions involving a cross section of personnel which include colleagues, staff and contractors.
