Soft Tissue Knee Fellow

Applications are invited for the above post at the City Hospital Campus of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

We invite applications from post CCT candidates who are interested in soft tissue knee surgery to apply for this post. International candidates must be able to prove that they have the training equivalent to UK CCT for Trauma and Orthopaedics to be able to apply for this post. This post will be for 6 months starting from February 2025 and August 2025. 

The successful candidate will work with the soft tissue knee team under the supervision of Mr Jimmy Ng and Mr Thomas Kurien.

The fellow is expected to gain significant exposure and knowledge in soft tissue knee and knee preservation surgery. We expect this post to fully prepare the fellow for future consultant posts

The successful candidate will support the Elective orthopaedic operating theatres and elective clinics at both the City Hospital Campus and the Treatment Centre.

In additional there will be an on-call commitment on the EO rota.
The fellow will also have the opportunity to join JN on Wednesday on his trauma list in QMC if there are any cases of interest such as mutliligament knee etc.

The fellow is expected to operate under supervision and will be given opportunity to operate independently once competency is gained. The fellow is actively encouraged to gain exposure to complex cases and come up with management plan upon discussion with the supervisors.

The fellow is actively encouraged to participate in audit, quality
improvement projects and research. The fellow is expected to complete a project suitable for national presentation and/or publication at the end of the post.

We actively encourage the fellow to teach and there will be ample opportunities for that. 


Over a 6-month period, the fellow is expected to complete a curriculum covering all aspects of soft tissue knee and knee preservation surgery. We actively encourage fellow to discuss the current evidence, controversies and future development in soft tissue knee surgery with us. A cadaveric / simulation training will be provided at the start of every 6 months to ensure the fellow is familiar with the surgical technique of
both supervisors to allow accelerated and smooth transition into the job and promote learning.

Basic Qualification

  • MB BS (or equivalant)
  • Current full GMC registration and licence to practice in date

  • Evidence of training progress FRCS ortho, FRCSC, FRACS. Degree or on point of completing

Experience

  • Familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent)
  • At least 2 years' experience in orthopaedics
  • NHS Hospital experience and currently working within an NHS practice

  • Complete or approaching completion of SpR training
