This is an exciting opportunity for Lead ENT CNP within the ENT Outpatients and the ENT emergency pathway. The successful candidate will join a well-established enthusiastic, friendly multidisciplinary and multi professional team. There is a highly motivated group of band 6 nurses who have completed nurse –led packages to manage epistaxis, otitis externa, performing nasoendoscopy and tonsillitis. Some have also completed training to request scans and prescribe. This development in competencies has been overseen by mentorship from the ENT consultant body and ENT Outpatient team.
Main duties of the job
A significant part of this role is about building quality assurance to allow more clinical autonomy as well as to lead some of the training elements for the roles through nurse-led education programs in conjunction with Consultant colleagues.

Alongside the whole Nurse Practitioner Team, to lead a specialist nursing service, maintaining and developing a high quality service
To take overall responsibility for the care of a caseload/list of patients requiring specialist nursing knowledge and care, particularly within the Emergency Pathway
Emergency Care Co-ordination:
Rapid review and support of ENT patients in assessment areas (Surgical Triage Unit and ED)
Generate and agree appropriate care pathway for patients in conjunction with the ENT on call team
Be a point of contact, and support co-ordination of the Surgery Division ‘SDEC’ area
Be accessible and a point of contact for the ward teams for information, advice and support- to include provision of plans of care.
Ensure plans of care made on reviews of acute ENT patients are followed through- including ordering investigations and reviewing results whilst in the Emergency pathway
Once trained, carry out procedures such treating epistaxis, otitis externa, tonsillitis and any further agreed nurse-led procedures.
Ensure regular review of nurse-led packages, updating as necessary and providing quality assurance of their responsibilities within the pathway
Provision of training for band 6 ENT clinical nurse practitioners
Maintain managerial responsibility for the band 6 ENT clinical nurse practitioners
Person specification
Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC registered
- Nursing /or health related Degree
- Non-medical prescribing Qualification
Desirable criteria
- Masters’ Degree
- Formal leadership and management training
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post-registration experience, at Band 6
- Relevant experience clinical setting (e.g. ENT , Head and Neck setting)
- Leadership and management experience
Desirable criteria
- ENT or relevant care experience
- Experience of setting up and developing a new service
Communication and relationship skills
Essential criteria
- Evidence of teaching and assessment skills.
- Able to present relevant clinical information to a multi-professional audience.
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.

Essential criteria
- Ability to interpret, analyse and act upon complex clinical and non-clinical information

Desirable criteria
- Experience of writing audit / research reports for a multi – professional audience
Planning and organisation skills
Essential criteria
- Able to organise and prioritise own workload, and provide clinical leadership to the health care team.
- Ability to lead and introduce change to improve the service to the patient.
- Knowledge and understanding of national policy and current issues affecting management and treatment of patients with ENT/ Head and Neck patients.

- Evidence of leading local projects

Physical skills

- Up to date with all mandatory training
- competent in Manual handling
