This is an exciting senior leadership role within NUH Information and Insight, the Trust's corporate data analytics function. NUH Information & Insight deliver a wide range of supportive services such as complex data analytics, statutory reporting, and data classifications/coding to support decision making, business intelligence, data quality assurance, and data visualization across the Trust.
We are looking for an individual who has proven experience of leadership/team development as well as significant experience of analytical data science both personally and promoting at a senior level. They will be able to evidence ability to lead/develop/coach a team in technical matters and also manage stakeholders and present complex information to solve problems/aid planning and forecasting.
Main duties of the job
This role reports to the Deputy Director of Information and Insight and will include leading the delivery of "Demand & Capacity" analysis. This includes for example bed and theatre capacity modelling for the Trust, both as part of the Trust's annual planning cycle, as well as over a much longer time horizon of up to 20 years as part of "Tomorrow's NUH", which is part of the national New Hospitals Programme.
This role will have direct line management responsibility for a team of experienced analysts and data scientists with an extensive track record of delivering innovative, bespoke analytical solutions across the Trust. The team have strong technical skills across Data Science, Machine Learning, Forecasting, Simulation Modelling, and Process Mining using R and python.
Furthermore, the role holder will be expected to work closely with senior leadership across the Trust to scope and design a Trust-wide approach to Demand & Capacity problems that meets the needs of the organisation and its patients. As part of this, the role holder is expected to interact with senior leaders from across the organisation and our integrated care system on a regular basis. We therefore expect the successful candidate to bring strong skills and experience in stakeholder engagement and management, effective communication of complex analytical content to mixed audiences, as well as ability to lead project teams including contributors from multiple departments.

Essential criteria
- • Demonstration of ongoing professional development. • Master’s Level qualification, or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- • Formal leadership and management training/development. • PhD, level in analytics / statistics / operational research / informatics
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Proven experience working within an Information and/or analysis role
- • Experience of line managing and development of staff
- • In depth specialist knowledge of Demand and Capacity forecasting to support acute Secondary Provider planning
- • Experience in developing products using Business Intelligence software e.g. Qliksense/ Tableau/Power BI, SSRS
- • Detailed knowledge & understanding of Health Informatics – including healthcare datasets (particularly secondary care), data quality, national strategic control mechanisms for data management, definitional guidance & data protection
Desirable criteria
- • Detailed knowledge of relevant NHS information processes (eg Commissioning & Payment by Result mechanisms, Secondary Uses Service)
- • Experience of working with ‘big data’ technologies, such as Hadoop, NoSQL, Orange or Python
