We are looking for someone organised to support and assist the Newborn Hearing Screen manager in the day to day running of the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme (NHSP) in Nottingham covering the City Hospital and Queens Medical Centre. This role provides an excellent opportunity for an individual to liaise with the local manager on a regular basis to maintain the smooth running of the service. You will be working as a senior member of the team to ensure that hearing screening is performed on all newborn babies in Nottingham, working in hospital, outpatient clinics and on occasions in home settings. This role is worked over a seven day week on a shift pattern. The role involves working weekends and bank holidays. The successful candidate will need to work flexibly and undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as required.

To undertake the screening of hearing for newborn babies born at City Hospital and Queens Medical Centre maternity and neonatal units.  

Support a family centred culture with the maternity and neonatal units ensuring no hearing screens are missed.

To identify which babies require screening and effectively prioritise workload.

To accurately record clinical and test data. To oversee daily QA checks for overall team and report any issues to Local Manager immediately.

To attend local and national meetings when appropriate.

To have responsibility of management of resources such as maintaining efficient stock control across both sites.  To liaise with administrator when stock order is required.

To maintain continuous personal development and undertake any additional training as appropriate.

To carry out audits and reports for the service.

To be compliant with Trust and Departmental Policies and Guidelines

To be compliant with National Screening protocol.

To work with Local Manager to conduct quarterly team meetings and carry out any education training sessions when required.

To have a supporting role with performance monitoring of screeners.

To deputise for Local Manager in absence with support of Band 4 Failsafe officer, Antenatal and Newborn screening managers and Team Leader.

To be responsible for reporting all accidents and untoward incidents as per Trust policy.  Escalation of incidents and concerns to Local Manager.

The Senior Newborn Hearing Screener will work as a Senior member of the team screening the hearing of all newborn babies across the City Hospital and Queens Medical Centre sites in Nottingham.  This role is mainly cross site hospital based but may include working from outpatient clinics and home settings. This role is worked over a seven day week on a shift pattern. The role involves working weekends and bank holidays. The post holder will need to work flexibly and undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as required.  The  Senior Newborn Hearing Screener will support and assist the Newborn Hearing Screen Local Manager in the day to day operational running of the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme.  The Senior screener will liaise with the Local manager on a daily basis to discuss any team issues and maintain an efficient and effective service.  They will deputise for Local Manager in their absence and attend any local or national meetings as necessary.

Training and Qualifications

  • MInimum of four GCSE's including Maths and English (Grade C or above)
  • Significant experience of Newborn Hearing Screening or equivalent experience of working with babies or screening programmes
  • Level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners or equivalent
  • Knowledge of patient management systems
  • Working with computers and experience with working with databases
